Sources confirm no Apple TV at Apple’s September event

By Jim DalrympleSeptember 2, 2009, 12:14 pm PT

Piper Jaffray Senior Research Analyst, Gene Munster, on Tuesday said he feels an Apple TV may be introduced at next week’s Apple event. However, that is not going to happen.

The Loop has learned through very reliable sources that an updated Apple TV will definitely not be introduced at next week’s event in San Francisco. Apple’s invitation states, “It’s only rock and roll, but we like it,” solidifying the theme for the event will be music.

The Loop also first reported in mid-August that the much-anticipated Apple tablet would not be introduced at the event.

What is expected next week are a variety of new iPods and perhaps a new version of iTunes. What’s clear is that this event will certainly focus on music.

Jim, if I’ve told you once, I’ve told you a million times. I am *not* a reliable source.

    ;-)

It’s a Rolling Stones Special Edition Apple TV.

New Apple TV, I do not think so personally. But I would like to see an update to the software of TV! Just expand it a bit further, Apple, stop putting breaks on it while going up on the road! :)

You know what? Sources also say that there won’t be a new iPod Touch, so you tell me what in god’s name they are going to release? There is nothing, so someone here is a lot more out of the loop than they’d be willing to admit, and needs to stop shooting down rumors. I’ll keep my hopes dangerously high until the unveiling, thank you very much.

Sorry Qwerty, I know exactly what I’m talking about. If you choose not to believe it and would rather believe the rumors, that’s your choice.

    You’ll be disappointed.

The Cupertino Gang will be as methodical as ever.. It’s gonna be all about the music. Although I’m interested to see what will be done with a new iTunes..and that’s because the main site says iPod + iTunes..

The “Beatles Rock Band” is releasing on that date. It’d be nice if Apple were to announce Beatles on iTunes!

So “very reliable source” why is the 40GB Apple TV seemingly be phased out? Aka, why does Best Buy not have any in stock?

And also one would assume that “very reliable source”s would have insider intel as to what may be launched next week so what’s up??? Subscription service? (although I think I’d rather use Rhapsody for iPhone)

    here’s what I see happening….

iTunes 9, with iPhone/touch app organization and support for Blu-Ray. Why Blu-Ray? Because they are ditching the DVD app and running everything thru iTunes. Why? Because iTunes is going to have a social aspect like Boxee currently uses, and it’s easier to keep everything straight if you only use one player. Also, iTunes 9 will support WiFi media syncing on WiFi enabled iPods/iPhones..

AppleTV will update to keep the same social features of iTunes 9, and add DVD playback thru Apple’s disk sharing feature used on MacBook Air. Pop a DVD in your Mac, and the video streams to Apple TV. SD Only, no Blu-Ray streaming.

iPod touches at 32/64 GB with 3GS-style cameras and video.

iPod Nanos at 16/32 GB, and 3G-style cameras.

iPod classic to remain largely untouched, with the exception of Classics and Nanos both getting WiFi, to seal to coffin on the Zune.

My predictions. No inside info, just wild guessing, We’ll see…

I don’t understand the correlation between these two sentences and why they were put together in the same paragraph…

“The Loop has learned through very reliable sources that an updated Apple TV will definitely not be introduced at next week’s event in San Francisco. Apple’s invitation states, “It’s only rock and roll, but we like it,” solidifying the theme for the event will be music.”

The first sentence is clear and stands on it’s own. Ok… we get it. No AppleTV update.

But then you seem to reinforce your point with the invitation slogan… How is that at all relevant to this story? I mean, isn’t it an almost certainty that the new iPod Touch with camera will be announced?… how is that more of a “music” focused announcement than an update to the AppleTV? The AppleTV is just a non-portable iPod.

Oddly enough, even Gene Munster contradicted his own client note on the possibility of an Apple TV.. It’s kinda funny.. he said we could see it, but he doubted that the necessary new ‘content deals’ were finalized.. Amazing that we keep quoting these people that can deny their own speculation in the same post!

That’s why they say “Those who know don’t talk, and those who talk (blog) don’t know..” They just get lucky..

But we’ll know soon enough, Apple will send an invite like “Lights, Camera’s.. Action..” or better yet “It’s Showtime.. Again!”

I have heard a rumor that Apple is designing an iT (iTerra) automobile to compete with the morass of poorly engineered autos that presently grace the terribly confused automobile market. Like the iPhone and iPod, it will be the standard for everyone else to copy.
