The Dalrymple Report: Justin Long, Apple AI, and Netflix

Justin Long is in the news again, this time doing commercials for Qualcomm. Apple is still in the news for uts rumored AI releases at WWDC, but this time it’s for a partnership with Sam Altman and OpenAI to make Apple’s AI actually work. Netflix is ending support for older Apple TVs, so if you have one of those devices, it may be time to upgrade.

GPT 4o was demoed and it’s absolutely incredible—unless Apple has something truly amazing at WWDC, they are going to fall really far behind.

The Dalrymple Report: Apple Event, Calc app for iPad, and Apple ID password resets

Apple announced an event for May 7, 2024, which is widely expected to showcase new iPads ahead of the companies Worldwide Developers Conference in June. At the event, or perhaps in the next version of iPadOS, the company is expected to unveil a calculator app for the device for the first time. A wave of Apple ID password resets have plagued users, including me, over the past week or so.

The Dalrymple Report: Caitlin Clark, Spotify features, and Dumb comparisons

It is a big week for women’s basketball as college star Caitlin Clark went No. 1 in the WNBA draft. As incredible as her college career was, some fans are outraged at her salary. Dave and I dig into how much she’s getting paid and why. My iPhone doesn’t connect to my new truck using CarPlay, so I can’t use Maps or Apple Music. This forced me into getting a subscription to Spotify and it has some really cool features. We are all looking (cautiously) forward to AI, but some of the new products are really bad. We take a look at one of them.

The Dalrymple Report: Home Robotics, Switching to Android, and Apple TV+ Movies

After stopping development of its car project, Apple is now rumored to be entering the home robotics space. It will be interesting to see what that will be in the future. The New York Times gave one of its reporters the task of switching from iPhone to Android—it went okay, but it certainl wasn’t smooth in all areas. Apple TV+ added a lot of movies from different studios to its service this week. They are all available for free if you subscribe to Apple TV+.

The Dalrymple Report: iPhone 15 spoilers, Apple TV, and 3D

Mark Gurman delivers some rumors on what he’s heard is coming to the iPhone 15 this year—Dave and I run through some of the ones we like the most. Apple TV+ is now available on Air Canada flights. This is a great move for Apple because it will introduce many new people to the service. Pixar, Adobe, Apple, Autodesk, and NVIDIA form Alliance for OpenUSD to drive open standards for 3D content, but one company is missing from that list. Dave walks us through a little Easter Egg in iOS.

Two of the biggest online news outlets are getting ready to shutdown. BuzzFeed News has already stated that they are shutting down and Vice is said to be headed for bankruptcy. Dave and I talk about the state of news and how we got here. The NYPD is handing out 500 AirTags in the city in an effort to stop the uptick in car thefts recently. Apple’s new savings account has drawn in almost $1 billion in depositis in four days.

The Dalrymple Report: Apple headset, CarPlay, and karaoke

In a new article this week, Mark Gurman compares the Apple Watch to Apple’s rumored headset. In a lot of ways, he’s right. We don’t know what to expect from the headset, but we hope that it will be bigger than the current rumors suggest. Dave and I go over the similarities of the two products. GM has announced that it’s not going to support CarPlay in its new EVs—we look at why they are making this decision and if it will backfire. We hear, and see, the South Korean President do a karaoke version of Don McLean’s American Pie.
