Randy Rhoads and Zakk Wylde

Randy Rhoads and Zakk Wylde are two of the greatest guitarist ever. They both write catchy riffs and they can play really fast solos, but that’s not what makes them great for me. […]

Jay Geils selling his 1959 Gibson Les Paul for $250,000

After almost forty five years of ownership rock superstar Jay Geils is selling his 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard. He has owned it since 1967 and it has appeared on every single J.Geils Band recording as well as on live shows around the world. Jay has played it on stage with bluesman B.B King, Duane Allman from the Allman Brothers Band, Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy and Junior Wells . Jay affectionately calls it his “lunch pail” Les Paul because he made his living for so many years playing it.

Somebody needs to buy this for me.

This special edition model is enhanced by a 1930s advanced X-bracing pattern made with scalloped spruce braces to attain optimal acoustic resonance. Fender Pawnshop Amps

New Pawn Shop Special amplifiers present a cool, unconventional take on amp design by evoking the enjoyably esoteric finds you might discover in a pawnshop or second-hand store.

These look really cool. I’d definitely like to try one of these.

TH2 guitar amp software updated

  • New Saint Amp effect emulates a classic amp+cab in a pedal.
  • New switch to enable/disable automation for smart parameters
  • Improvement: the list in the sound browser now scrolls to show the current sound and variation
  • Improvement: better compatibility when RTAS and AAX plug-ins are both present

I started using this a couple of weeks ago and I’m impressed so far.

Fender upgrades the American Standard series

Fender’s acclaimed American Standard series guitars and basses have been upgraded for 2012, resulting in the latest iterations of the company’s four archetypal instruments—the Telecaster, Stratocaster, Precision Bass and Jazz Bass guitars. They’re the same great best-selling go-to instruments they’ve always been, and now feature Fender Custom Shop pickups, as well as other distinctive new design touches.

I’d take a Strat.

Capo adds mastering-quality audio slowing engine

Integrated a new mastering-quality audio slowing engine that significantly improves the clarity of slowed down music; fixed a bug that affected chord entries when a tranposing capo was set up in the note settings.

The new audio engine is amazing. IF you play guitar and haven’t tried Capo, you’re missing out.

Studio Devil amp modeling software

I’m working on a review of Studio Devil, but I’m impressed enough with the modeling that I wanted to let everyone know about it now. It’s very accurate and sounds great.

EverTune keeps your guitar in tune, and it works

Guitar Apprentice

The “real” Guitar Apprentice takes hit guitar songs and breaks them down into 15 different levels of playing. From the very start, the user is playing great guitar songs with a full band, supplying only a chord or two at first. The user can then work on songs at any desired speed and when it is completed will be playing 100% of the song – including solos. At every level, Guitar Apprentice shows the user visually, exactly what and when to play at the pace he or she desires. Guitar Apprentice includes such iconic songs as “Hey Jude,” “Can’t Buy Me Love,” “Get Back,” “Sharp Dressed Man,” “You Really Got Me,” “Shine,” “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” and many others.

I suck at games like Guitar Hero because I’m always trying to play the real chords. I’m looking forward to trying this out at NAMM next week.

Charvel introduces the Desolation Series

Charvel is proud to announce the return of two classic body shapes, both in sleekly modern Desolation series form. New Desolation DST and DX guitars offer a variety of features and finishes prized by discerning players everywhere, and both deadly models deliver the devastating tone, killer looks and high-performance playability that separate the Desolation series from all others.

I have 16 guitars, but sadly not one of them are a Charvel. I’ve always wanted one of these.

∞ The best guitar straps

After playing guitar for 20 years, you come to appreciate having a great guitar strap. I’d played long enough with bad straps that cut into my shoulder or have uncomfortable adjustment fittings cutting into my back that I thought I’d … Continued
