Apple is one of the most environmentally friendly technology companies in the world. The company setup a Web site last year to be as transparent as possible, but that doesn’t seem to be enough to satisfy a Chinese environmental group who have criticized the company.
Apple “only care[s] about the price and quality and not the environmental and social responsibility issues. In some ways they drive the suppliers to cut corners to win their contracts,” IPE spokesperson Ma Jun told Reuters. “We’ve found that Apple isn’t honoring its commitment in ensuring its supply chain’s work safety and environmental responsibility and giving dignity and respect to the workers.”

CCP has announced the release of EVE Online: Incursion 1.1, a new version of their massively multiplayer online role playing game for Mac OS X and Windows. The update is free for all registered players, who will receive the update automatically the next time they connect to play (it was deployed on Tuesday afternoon). (more…)

Starbucks on Wednesday announced the national rollout of a mobile payment system that works with iPhones, iPod touches and select BlackBerry devices. The system works at 6,800 company-operated Starbucks locations and more than 1,000 Starbucks located in Target stores throughout the US. (more…)

TiVo announced on its blog that its TiVo Premiere app is now available from the App Store. The software lets you control your TiVo digital video recorder (DVR) using an iPad, but only works with TiVo’s new Premiere devices, not older TiVo DVRs. (more…)

The developer of iOS role playing game League of Epic Heroes has pulled his game as a result of complaints by the developer of Desktop Dungeons, a PC game that’s coming to iOS. While initially defiant against claims of plagiarism, League creator Eric Fararro has apparently had a change of heart. Following the removal of the game from the App Store, Fararro noted that Desktop Dungeons developer QCF had involved a copyright lawyer and wrote them an e-mail that read in part,
“I apologize for all the issues this has caused, and wish you best of luck on your IGF nomination. Looking forward to the full version of Desktop Dungeons on iPhone.”
Capcom’s “MaXsplosion” game was involved in a similar controversy with with Twisted Pixel’s “‘Splosionman” game.

Many music fans finally got what they were asking for in November, 2010 when Apple announced that the music of the Beatles was now available for purchase from the iTunes Store. It’s a tribute to the band’s enduring popularity that since then, the iTunes Store has sold 5 million Beatles songs and 1 million albums. (more…)
