Spiderweb Software on Thursday revealed plans to release Avadon 2: The Corruption, a fantasy role playing game for Mac, Windows and iPad. It’s coming this Fall.
Developed by the makers of the Avernum and Exile series, Avadon 2 is part of an all-new series. You return to Avadon, the Black Fortress. You are tasked with putting an end to the civil war that threatens your land. A shadowy menace threatens to destroy your land, and it’s up to you to either joining forces with it and ending Avadon’s power or fighting your enemies and restoring Avadon to its former glory.
You choose from five different character classes, dozens of spells and abilities, dungeons to explore, magical artifacts to collect and use, and many different branching storylines, endings and side quests.

If you have love in your heart for games like the Ultima series for Apple II and the original Baldur’s Gate, you will love Spiderweb’s games. They’re deep, they’re immersive, they’re loads of fun and for the amount of gameplay you get, they’re worth every penny. I’ve never been disappointed with any Spiderweb game I’ve played.
Nintendo and Sony once held a lock on the mobile gaming industry, but Google and Apple have cracked that wide open with their respective mobile operating systems. A new joint report from IDC and App Annie claims that combined spending on games in the App Store and Google Play in the fourth quarter 2012 was higher than the amount spent on dedicated handheld devices.
Just a couple of years ago this would have been inconceivable.

After numerous delays, Beamdog and Overhaul Games announced Wednesday plans to release Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition for OS X. You can pre-order and pre-load it today from Beamdog’s Web site; it’ll also be available for download from the Mac App Store. Either way, it’ll cost $20.
Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition is a rework of the classic computer role playing game originally developed by Bioware and released in the late 1990s. Baldur’s Gate won legions of fans for its intricate and detailed gameplay, which followed the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons rule set and incorporated scenarios in the AD&D Forgotten Realms setting.
Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition arrives complete with added content, new character classes and other changes. The game has already been released for iOS and Windows, but this will mark the OS X debut. (The iPad version is available for $10, but offers additional content only unlockable using in-app purchases. The Mac version arrives fully equipped.)
Apple’s iPhone 5 became the best-selling in the world in Q4 2012, outselling Samsung’s Galaxy S3, according to a new report from Strategy Analytics.
According to its research, Strategy Analytics said Apple shipped an estimated 27.4 million units worldwide during Q4, giving it 13 percent market share of all smartphones shipped. The research firm also said that Apple shipped 17.4 million iPhone 4S units for 8 percent smartphone share globally in the quarter.
“Apple’s iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S are currently the world’s two most popular smartphone models,” wrote Strategy Analytics.
Together, the iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S accounted for 1 in 5 of all smartphones shipped during the quarter.
The research firm estimates the Samsung Galaxy S3 came in third place with 15.4 million units shipped and a 7 percent market share.

Here it is: the fourth and final piece of the Ubuntu puzzle. We’ve seen the OS on smartphones, on TVs and of course on desktops, but the tablet version has spent a little longer in its dressing room. Fortunately, Canonical feels that the last stage in its four-screen strategy is now ready for the limelight and has released a video of the software in action.
Ubuntu is coming to smartphones, and now to tablets too. At least if you have a Nexus 7 or Nexus 10 tablet, that is, for a preview build that’s coming shortly. It’s a safe bet that it’ll be a while (sometime into 2014) before tablets start rolling off the assembly line with Ubuntu installed, however.

Apple on Tuesday admitted to being the victim of a hacker attack by the same people that went after Facebook last week. Apple said it is taking steps to help its customers, including releasing an updated Java malware removal tool.
“Apple has identified malware which infected a limited number of Mac systems through a vulnerability in the Java plug-in for browsers,” Apple said in a statement the company provided to The Loop. “The malware was employed in an attack against Apple and other companies, and was spread through a website for software developers. We identified a small number of systems within Apple that were infected and isolated them from our network. There is no evidence that any data left Apple. We are working closely with law enforcement to find the source of the malware.
“Since OS X Lion, Macs have shipped without Java installed, and as an added security measure OS X automatically disables Java if it has been unused for 35 days. To protect Mac users that have installed Java, today we are releasing an updated Java malware removal tool that will check Mac systems and remove this malware if found,” the company said.
Apple, which is working with law enforcement to track down the hackers, told Reuters that only a small number of its employees’ Macintosh computers were breached, but “there was no evidence that any data left Apple.”
Reuters says its the same hackers that hit Facebook last week.
