∞ Suspect charged with obstruction after swallowing flash drive

This was just too good to pass up. Florin Necula was arrested for allegedly skimming card numbers from ATM machines in New York City. While in custody, Necula swallowed a flash drive, I suppose to conceal information about his crimes from the police. He later allowed doctors to perform a procedure to get the drive out and then the police charged him with obstruction of justice. There is no word on if the data on the drive was ruined or not.

∞ Why isn't Apple using Intel's i7 processor?

We’ve all been waiting for Apple to release new MacBook Pros with Intel’s i7 processors, but so far nothing. There could be a million reasons for it. Seth Weintraub at 9 to 5 Mac has a few thoughts on the subject that include Apple’s relationship with Nvidia and Intel.

∞ The iPhone patents Apple accuses HTC of infringing

Apple sued HTC earlier today for infringing 20 of its patents related to the iPhone. There was some confusion earlier as to the number of patents that Apple had in its lawsuit — turns out Apple filed two lawsuits. One suit was filed with the International Trade Commission, while the other was filed in the District of Delaware. That accounts for all 20 patents. You can see all of the patent descriptions at Gizmodo.

∞ PC vs. Mac: What’s the right computer for you?

Technologizer founder Harry McCracken posted an interesting article on choosing the right computer. I’m often asked about my decision to use a Mac instead of a Windows PC — the answer is that it works better and has a superior user experience. However, I always tell people to buy the computer that best fits their needs.

McCracken looks at cost, selection, OS, security and service in his article. He emphasizes that while Macs tend to have higher upfront costs, they often provide longer lifespans, fewer technical issues, and consistent software updates that improve stability. On the other hand, Windows PCs are known for their flexibility and wide range of prices, making them ideal for users who want to customize their machines or work within a tighter budget.

Security is another key factor he discusses. Macs are generally less prone to viruses and malware, although no system is completely immune. Meanwhile, Windows users can enhance protection with reliable antivirus programs and regular updates. McCracken also points out that customer service and technical support vary greatly between brands, which can influence the overall experience. Ultimately, his conclusion mirrors my own: the “best” computer isn’t about brand loyalty but about what aligns with your personal workflow, preferences, and goals.
