The David Rubenstein Show: Tim Cook
As always, an interesting interview with Cook.
Apple finally has the right attitude about notifications in iOS 12
I don’t get nearly the amount of notifications Bohn has (mostly because I manage them better than he does) but anything that helps tame them will be a big help.
Shortcuts: a new vision for Siri and iOS automation
I’m not convinced Shortcuts will take off for the average user but it will be interesting to see how developers and techies take advantage of them.
The tiny, essential Google tricks for way better search results
As the “new” father of a 12-year-old, some of these tricks will come in handy when he starts doing research for school projects.

Apple bans cryptocurrency mining on the iPhone and iPad
Good that they’re banning mining on the iOS device itself but not other aspects of cryptocurrency.
The 100 best one hit wonder songs: a streamable playlist
Great playlist but I’d disagree with categorizing some of these bands as “one hit wonders”. While they may not be as good as their one song inclusions on this list, some had long and successful careers.
Face ID on iOS 12 allows two different faces to unlock the same iPhone
While still not as capable as Touch ID in this regard, this is still a welcome way for me to allow my wife to access my iPhone X easily.
Ersatz free trials
While many of us will be happy to have free trials available to us, as a developer, Jalkut still has some understandable concerns he hopes Apple will address.

Real Canadian road rage
This is an old video but I posted it to remind readers who drive cars to please be on the lookout for motorcycles. The life you save may be mine. And riders, I know how incredible it is to go fast on your bike b
Tim Cook reveals his tech habits: I use my phone too much
I think “revealed” might be typical hyperbole but I’m definitely looking forward to this feature in iOS 12 if only out of curiosity. I don’t think anything it tells me will actually make me use my phone less.
Apple says CarPlay will now support third party navigation and mapping apps
I don’t have CarPlay on my motorcycle but if I did, I’d find this to be good news. I much prefer other apps, including Waze, over Apple’s app for navigation.

There are some developers really excited by this and others who are really unhappy about it. Regardless, it will be interesting to see what this brings Mac users in the future.

I don’t even know 32 people let alone want to simultaneously FaceTime chat with that many.
Apple just made Safari the good privacy browser
Would these changes make you use Safari if you don’t right now?

There’s some interesting little tidbits here.

Unsurprisingly, some older Macs will get left behind when macOS Mojave 10.14 is released.
WWDC 2018 Keynote video
Next up comes the dissection of the keynote.
Four OS updates. One big day.
The WWDC 2018 Keynote is just over. Apple has updated their web site with some of the news that was announced and the replay of the keynote will be posted shortly.
WWDC 2018 opening video “The Developer Migration”
Pay particular attention at the 1:04 minute mark.
The Pyramids of Giza are near a Pizza Hut, and other sites that may disappoint you
This story is funny/sad. I’ve been to the places described and they really can be disappointing if you’re expecting something much grander. It may no longer be there but when I was at the Great Sphinx ten years ago, there was a “Sphinx Guest House” a literal stone’s throw away. It was really jarring.
How one Apple programmer got apps talking to each other
Sal is an acknowledged legend in the Mac community for his work at Apple but I know him as a friend and a great guy to talk to. I spent a week with him trapped on a cruise ship and he was the only thing that made it tolerable.
It’s not easy being evergreen: an oral history of the Muppets
I hope kids today enjoy the Muppets as much as many of us did when we were young.
Does brand matter when buying a new camera?
I get this question all the time from beginners. My answer is, “It doesn’t matter. Buy a camera that fits your budget”.
Wushu has got to be the most dangerous team sport in the world
Damn. One wrong move and someone is shishkabob.
