Slowly but steadily, Apple is building out its base and support of AirPlay 2 and HomeKit.

Tim Cook to Apple naysayers: ‘The ecosystem has never been stronger’
Many will, understandably, blow this off as Cook simply doing damage control – and he very well might be. But he’s also not wrong.
Apple Music Wrapped: A shortcut to visualize your most listened songs, artists, and genres of the year
I don’t use Apple Music but I’m sure many of you are like me and like seeing this kind of data. Shame Apple doesn’t make it easy to create.
Apple phone phishing scams getting better
I’m sure most of us wouldn’t get caught out by something like this but not everyone is as tech savvy as we are. My wife almost got caught by this so it’s a good idea to warn family and friends to never answer these kinds of calls unless they are expecting them and specifically request the call.
Apple’s errors
Good examination from one point of view of what happened to Apple next week. The Quarterly Call at the end of this month will be very interesting.
Technology, ranked
As usual, an interesting list. Can you think what your Top Five most important technologies ever would be?
Samsung smart TVs to launch iTunes movies & TV shows and support AirPlay 2 beginning Spring 2019
This is great news for those of you who use these products but I wouldn’t allow a “smart TV” into my home for love or money.
Apple’s earnings guidance is a China issue, not an iPhone problem
I have spent the last couple of days thinking about Apple and its recent troubles. There is no doubt Tim Cook’s message to investors lowering Apple’s earnings guidance for the first fiscal quarter sent shockwaves throughout the industry. For a company that continually crushed estimates to falter like this made people really think about the future of the iPhone, and indeed, Apple itself. But it’s not all bad.
Apple’s FY 19 first quarter results conference call
Following the letter from Tim Cook to Apple investors, “revising our guidance”, Apple has updated their investor relations page with details about their upcoming Q1 2019 analysts call. It promises to be interesting, to say the least.
The best show I watched in 2018 went off the air three years ago
I can’t argue with this. My wife hadn’t seen Justified when it originally aired so we watched it together. We were both blown away by how good a TV show (except for the awful fifth season) and wished it had continued.
How to set up your Apple Watch for maximum fitness motivation
I was lucky enough to have a Your Mac Life listener gift me an Apple Watch 3 for Christmas so I’m determined to use it for my New Years Resolution – to lose 30lbs by March 20th, the day before I go to Lisbon for my Starting Point Photography “Photo Tourism” workshop.
What Facebook knows about you
There’s no doubt Facebook knows more about you than you realize but it also knows a lot about you that you gave Facebook voluntarily.
Apple’s “Color Flood”: like Picasso said
I wasn’t nearly as enamored of the ad as Segall was but I do agree on the confusing message it sends.
How to lose thousands selling on Amazon
It was only after they’d sunk $40,000 and nine months of precious nights and weekends that Jordan McDowell and William Bjork realized how hard it is to make a passive income selling things on Amazon.
The couple had hoped to strike it rich—or at least quit their day jobs—buying goods from China and reselling them on the e-commerce site. Instead, they lost their savings.
I feel bad for the people that have lost money trying to sell products on Amazon, or any other service, but when people claim to have all the answers to make you successful, it’s usually a scam. Those people never lose money.
A brief history of B&H, the largest non-chain camera store in the US
B&H has had its challenges over the years but I always dropped in during the New York Macworld Expos because it was such a cool, old-school kind of store. If you’re ever in New York City, stop by just for the fun of it – and the free candy. And now I know what the “B&H” stands for.
The old guard of Mac indy apps has thrived for more than 25 years
To stick around for 25 years is pretty remarkable (says the guy celebrating his 25th anniversary as a “podcaster” this coming March!) and these apps deserve all the accolades.
The world’s friendliest countries revealed
I’m proud to live in #10 and very happy I’ll be spending a week in #1 this coming March.
Watch “Dinner for One”, the short film that has become a baffling New Year’s tradition in Europe
It’s a very sweet little bit of comedy.
New Year’s Eve around the world: countdown to 2019, in photos
My family in Australia has already finished their celebrations and we here in British Columbia are getting prepped and ready. From my family to yours, I hope you have a happy, safe, fun, and joyous New Year’s Eve and 2019!
Etymotic ER3, the Audiophiliac affordable headphone of the year
I’ve always been a big fan of not only the company Etymotic but also the people I’ve met there. If you’re looking for a new set of in-ear headphones, check out their product line.
Select multiple apps on iOS?
Mind. Blown.
I ordered a box of crickets from the Internet and it went about as well as you’d expect
I read this on Twitter earlier today and thought it was the funniest thing I’d read all month.
Showmanship, and conflict, as darts goes from smoky pubs to tv spectacle
I love playing darts. I learned from my mother who was an incredible darts player. I’ll even admit to watching it on TV on occasion. The spectacle it has become is fascinating and not just a little bit ridiculous.
New Apple stores want to become ‘town squares.’ But is combining public and private spaces a good idea?
it’s always good to critically examine how we use these spaces to ensure they are primarily serving people and not corporations.
How to dump 3,000 pounds of confetti on Times Square
The New York City ball drop was always a big deal for us to watch on TV as a kid. That being said, there’s no chance I’ll ever want to actually be in Times Square for the ball drop.
The Dalrymple Report: Pole Dancing for Mark Zuckerberg with Rene Ritchie
Rene and I had a great conversation today that went from Apple’s triumphs of 2018 to how it could improve Siri while keeping its commitment to privacy.

Camera comparison: Can the iPhone XR’s single camera compete with the iPhone XS and XS Max’s two cameras?
Some very interesting photo evidence that starkly shows the differences. But the “average” user may not notice or care.

If you have kids in your life, I hope you are lucky enough to share these trackers with them.
Capsicum daily planning app
I’m not really a “daily planner” kind of guy but I wanted to post this, not only for the information but to talk about their model. While it’s subscription-based ($2/month), they are doing something really interesting.
