I fully expected to read this article and absolutely hate the subject but she’s surprisingly honest and down to earth about having access to more money than the rest of us combined.

Oreo x Game of Thrones title sequence
I usually hate these kinds of unrelated promotional tie-ins but this one is pretty funny.
“The Underdogs”
Great little video.
“They thought it was black magic”: an oral history of TiVo
I first used a TiVo when I moved to Nashville in 2002 and it was incredible. I don’t think I’ve gone without a DVR since.

My friend Sly posted this on Twitter and now I want a slow-motion version so I can really see what’s going on and try it myself.
An exclusive look at an original iPhone prototype
I knew this was one of the ways Apple showed the protoype iPhones but it’s the first image I’ve seen of it.
Video of Coney Island rides from the 1930s and 1940s that would never fly today
These are great but I can’t imagine many of them would be allowed today.
How the tragic death of Do Not Track ruined the web for everyone
The death of Do Not Track is the reason why I don’t give a damn about ad publishers and their moaning about adblockers and other efforts to thwart them. We tried being nice to you and you were jerks about it. No sympathy.
Inside Game of Thrones: a story in stunts
h”We burn more people than anyone else!” He said gleefully.
Why phone numbers stink as identity proof
I avoid like the plague giving anyone my phone number or Social Security/Social Insurance number. If a company demands I include one, I’ll give them a fake number whenever possible. It doesn’t work in all situations but I try to limit it as much as I can.
Fifty years of the internet
The growth of the internet was unimaginable by these guys 50 years ago just like we can’t imagine what it will be like 50 years from now but it sure as hell isn’t likely to be “unequivocally wonderful, open, collaborative, trustworthy or ethical.”
Is Adobe’s Creative Cloud too powerful for its own good?
I don’t think CC is “too powerful” but it is a conversation worth having. A lot of people aren’t happy with where the Creative Cloud is going and how locked in many of us are to it.
There is a good variety of alternatives to Instagram
I’m less and less likely to post to Instagram, if only because of the ridiculous amount of advertising I see when I use the app. I’ve just recently re-upped my Pro membership on Flickr and will likely check out some of these other services Chartier mentions.

Why humans must band together to fight the tyranny of tech
Really interesting article based on a SXSW interview with Douglas Rushkoff.
What it’s like to race in the Daytona 500
I love most forms of car and motorcycle racing and NASCAR’s Daytona 500 is a race like no other. A bucket list item for me is to be in a race car for high-speed laps of that speedway.

It might be a “smart TV” but any manufacturer who did this would be stupid.

Silicon Valley private equity investor implicated in college admissions scandal
Prosecutors charged Bill McGlashan, a founder and managing partner at TPG Growth — which has made landmark investments in companies like Uber and Airbnb — on fraud allegations for trying to engineer the admission of his son to the University of Southern California.
What is particularly damaging for TPG is that McGlashan has positioned himself as a leading voice in Silicon Valley for social responsibility. In addition to overseeing TPG’s late-stage growth investing arm, McGlashan has partnered with other conscious leaders like Bono and Laurene Powell Jobs at The Rise Fund, a TPG investing arm that tries to make the world a better place through investments in things like dairy farms in India.
I’m taking a wild stab in the dark here in saying that his partners are not too thrilled about these revelations, especially since he is “one of the tech sector’s leading proponents of how to invest ethically and for social impact.”
