GuitarTone for iOS

Inspired by the ultimate collection of legendary and boutique amps and effect pedals, GuitarTone offers a vast array of high quality tones. Sonoma passionately created tonal interpretations of essential vintage and custom amps, pedals and microphones, and assembled them into GuitarTone.

You can do dual amps with this too. Looks great.

Universal Audio 64-bit support coming in Dec.

Separately, Universal Audio will be releasing a public beta of 64-bit Mac plug-ins (UAD Powered Plug-Ins v6.4.1 software) in December, ensuring that 64-bit UAD plug-in support will be available on both PC and Mac platforms in 2012.

Great to see them bringing support next month.

About the rumor that Apple decimated its pro audio team

A rumor began circulating earlier this week that Apple’s Pro audio team has been decimated.

Apple’s Pro Audio application team is virtually gone, according to recent conversations with a couple of ex-Apple employees. […] In the words of one of them, the team has been ‘decimated’.

Nope.

There’s no truth to this rumor.

Happy 70th Jimi

If a musician’s greatness is measured by the breadth of his influence — and how else should we gauge it? — Jimi Hendrix’s legacy commends him as one of the most inspiring virtuosos who ever lived. Consider just a few of the acts who explicitly cite Hendrix as central to their sound, or who pay tribute by incorporating at least something of him into their work: The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Miles Davis (who, of course, influenced Hendrix, as well), ZZ Top, Stephen Stills, Public Enemy — the list is as long as it is dizzying in its variety.

New Jimi Hendrix album

On March 5th, a collection of 12 previously unreleased recordings by Jimi Hendrix will see the light. People, Hell and Angels follows Hendrix in 1968 and 1969 as he works on material apart from the Jimi Hendrix Experience and suggests new, experimental directions.

I’ll definitely be buying this album.

Tutorial: Tracking Rock drums

This collection of video tutorials by the one and only Kenny Gioia takes you inside Kenny’s personal recording lair and shows you step by step how kenny sets up and records the foundation of any rock / pop tune, the drums. From set up to performance to editing, it’s all here, meticulously demonstrated by multi-platinum engineer and producer Kenny Gioia.

Kenny Gioia is far and away my favorite trainer when it comes to Pro Tools and music in general. He has a great way of teaching that I throughly enjoy.

Addicted to Bluegrass

You have to give respect to talent in all music genres. These kids rock it out.

AmpKit arrives for the Mac

You know as an iOS guitar amp modeling app, but now AmpKit is available on the Mac. I’ve been playing around with this for a little while and it’s really nice. I’ll have a full review soon, but I’m sure you’ll like it.

Studio Devil Virtual Tube Preamp

Studio Devil Virtual Tube Preamp faithfully emulates the analog circuitry of a discrete, class-A biased, vacuum tube preamplifier. All of the associated analog circuitry, including the vacuum tube itself and the effects of biasing resistors and capacitors, are simulated in amazing detail. Just about any audio source or track can benefit from the natural soft limiting and dynamic warmth that this virtual tube preamplifier provides.

Studio Devil is a great company.

Review: AmpliTube 3

I started off this review a while ago by focusing on AmpliTube Slash and iRig Stomp. However, I quickly realized that IK Multimedia’s products are more than their separate parts to me. […]

Orange Dark Terror

I have eight amps in my collection, but I have to get one of these.

Musicians unite to fight Pandora

MusicFIRST, an organization that represents musicians and their rights, in collaboration with SoundExchange on Wednesday announced that 125 artists, 40 of which are Grammy award winners, have opposed the bill. Artists include Common, Dead Kennedys, Missy Elliot, Vince Gill, Don Henley, Billy Joel, Maroon 5, Martha Reeves, David Sanborn, Michael W. Smith and Roger Waters, among others.

I always believed musicians should be paid for their music. Perhaps it’s because I know so many of them that rely on it for their livelihood, but whatever the reason, if you want to use their material, they need to get paid.

Tips on using the UA Precision K-Stereo Ambience Recovery Plug-In

While there’s still no substitute for a great mix or good microphone technique, the Precision K-Stereo Plug-In is a simple yet powerful new ambience recovery tool that can actually enhance the depth and imaging of a recording during mastering without adding artificial reverberation or changing the ratio of center elements to side elements.

This is Universal Audio’s latest plug-in and as you can see from the description, it can really help with the subtle characteristics of your song. The tips come straight from the company and is well worth the read.

Kurt Cobain’s top 50 albums list

It won’t be new to anyone who owns a copy of Kurt Cobain’s Journals, but for the rest of us, the late Nirvana frontman’s hand-scrawled list of his all-time favorite albums is a sight to behold. It’s always interesting to … Continued

Cubase 7

Steinberg announced Cubase 7 today and it looks pretty good. I especially like what they’ve done with the Mix Console and Control Room.

MXR Black Label Chorus

I want one of these to go with my Zakk Wylde Overdrive. For me, MXR is like Boss was back in the day — trusted and indestructible.

Metal Guitar Gods EZmix Pack

Metal Guitar Gods is an expansion pack for EZmix 2, focusing solely on amp and cab simulation presets for guitar and bass. It comes with everything from rhythm, lead and clean sounds to settings for acoustic guitar and bass.

EZmix is a great plug-in that makes it quick and easy to get a great sounding mix. Basically, you pick a preset and you’re done. You can fine tune it if you want, but they usually sound pretty good as they are.
