Vintage Gibson guitar mangled by airline baggage handlers

It was a musician’s worst nightmare.

At least that’s how Dave Schneider, guitarist and singer for Hanukkah-themed rock band The LeeVees, described it when his guitar—a 1965 Gibson ES-335—got jammed in an elevator by baggage handlers at a Detroit airport.

Such a sad story.

H.E.A.R. at NAMM 2013

H.E.A.R. (Hearing Education and Awareness for Rockers) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness of the dangers of noise exposure that can lead to permanent hearing loss and tinnitus. Damage to hearing is typically cumulative and irreversible, not immediately detectable, and it can occur from almost any contemporary music source or event.

I have a lot of respect for the work Kathy Peck does to raise awareness for musicians and music lovers everywhere.

20 iconic guitars

Rolling Stone’s list is good, but clearly missing some iconic models. I think everyone’s list would be a little bit different.

Understanding and Recording Guitar Speakers

This is an article from earlier this year, but it’s also something I’ve talked about on Amplified. The cabinet speaker is a very important part of your tone. It’s an interesting read.

Review: Posse Monitor System

The Posse Monitor System is a headphone amplifier system that incorporates multiple inputs, and various additional features, for musicians to hear themselves while performing. This analog system is a good quality hard-wired system that fills a need for such a thing where one is conspicuously absent. In other words, the mainstream pro-audio manufacturers like AKG, Sennheiser, Audio-Technica, and others, continue to focus on developing wireless systems. […]

Metal drum loops

I’ve been getting drum loops from these guys for years. They are the best. Real drums recorded in a studio.

Review: Flashback X4 Delay

I have a love/hate relationship with delay pedals. I love how they can sound, but trying to get that perfect delay results in failure more times than I ever see success. […]

iTunes Holdouts

Conrad MacIntyre tells the holdouts to call it what it is and not use the artistic excuse. Good point.

Eddie Van Halen talks about his solo on “Beat It”

Van Halen was a surprise guest on “Beat It,” the album’s third single. His blazing guitar solo lasted all of 20 seconds and took half an hour to record. He did it for free, as a favor to producer Quincy Jones, while the rest of his Van Halen bandmates were out of town.

Eddie is one of the greatest guitarists that has ever picked up the instrument.
