Jerry Seinfeld does Reddit AMA

If you are at all a fan of Seinfeld (the person or the show) or Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, this “Ask Me Anything” is well worth the read. Some terrific questions, interesting insights.

Fox gave him $25K to film a trailer. Here’s what he did instead

Producer/director Casey Neistat has a reputation. From his Wikipedia page:

Neistat first gained international fame in late 2003 for a three-minute film titled iPod’s Dirty Secret, criticizing Apple’s lack of a battery replacement program for the iPod. The film received national media exposure and brought broad attention on Apple’s policy towards iPod battery replacements.

Neistat’s latest venture came at the intersection of two unrelated events. On November 7, 2013, the strongest typhoon in recorded history made landfall in the Phillipines. Five days later, Casey received an email from 20th Century Fox asking him to take part in the Live Your Dreams marketing campaign for the movie The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. They offered him $25,000 to make a trailer. He suggested he do something much better with the money and they agreed.

Hilarious new Old Spice commercial

I have long been a fan of the quirky, special effects laden Old Spice commercials. This new one is now my all-time favorite.

Steve Jobs calls an audible and does a little dance

This is a great story, via MG Siegler, who was there when it happened.

Jonathan Mann is a pretty talented musician and publisher of the “Song a Day” YouTube channel. MG Siegler is, among other things, a writer for TechCrunch. This story takes place in the summer of 2010, in the midst of Antennagate.

Hilarious overtime goal rests in the goalie’s pants

Yet another reason I so love hockey. To set the stage, the Sabres were hosting the Coyotes. The Coyotes scored first and held that lead all the way to the last bit of the game. The Sabres scored a nice little goal to send the game to overtime. Next goal wins.

Queue the video. Hilarious!

Hockey ref wears helmet cam

I love hockey!

AHL referee David Banfield wears a GoPro helmet cam, giving an up close and personal look at what happens on the ice during a game. The video was shot during the annual Teddy Bear Toss game on Dec. 7, 2013, with the help of microphones on both Banfield and linesman Paul Carnathan, and was produced by the Checkers.

Eddie Vedder and Julie Andrews cover the Stones? Not quite

This is brilliant. Eddie Vedder brings Jeanne Tripplehorn on-stage to cover the Stones’ classic “Shattered”. The twist is, Tripplehorn does it in a dead-on Julie Andrews voice. I couldn’t help thinking as I was listening to this, “Hey, I can finally understand the words.” Heh.

The original Mac versus Windows battle was in 1982

Was watching the 1982 remake of The Thing when I was struck by the incredible coincidence of one character named Mac (Helicopter pilot R. J. MacReady, played by Kurt Russell) and another character named Windows (played by Thomas G. Waites).

Amazing reshuffling of traffic footage

I truly do not get how Cy Kuckenbaker did this, but I’m sure it took a decent amount of smarts and elbow grease. In a nutshell, he took some raw traffic footage of vehicles going under an overpass and sorted all the vehicles by color, then time compressed the whole thing.

Interstellar trailer

This could be very, very good. Love Matthew McConaughey’s voiceover.

High resolution scan of Gutenberg Bible posted on-line

The Bodleian Libraries of the University of Oxford and the Vatican Library have joined together to digitize their collection of ancient texts. One of these (perhaps the most important, in my opinion) is the Gutenberg Bible, the first major book created using movable type.
