[VIDEO] I believe we’re now all caught up with this series. Love every one of them, from 1979 to 1986. I believe 1987 is in the works. 1986 is embedded in the main Loop post.

Apple TV+ announces special quarantine episode of “Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet”
[VIDEO] Apple:
Apple today announced that its critically hailed workplace comedy series, “Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet,” will return Friday, May 22, with the debut of “Mythic Quest: Quarantine,” a special new episode written, filmed and edited in quarantine.
Big fan of this show. The quarantine episode was filmed (as you’d expect) entirely on iPhones.
The trailer is embedded in the main Loop post.
The mashup continues, this time with more than 50 songs from 1985
[VIDEO] I love this series. It started with 1979 and there’s one for every year between 1979 and 1985. Every one of them worth watching.
Video embedded in main Loop post. Enjoy.
A detailed look at the new features in Logic Pro X 10.5

Zoom in to the most detailed photo ever of Rembrandt’s The Night Watch
The Rijksmuseum:
The Rijksmuseum’s imaging team led by datascientist Robert Erdmann made this photograph of The Night Watch from a total of 528 exposures. The 24 rows of 22 pictures were stitched together digitally with the aid of neural networks. The final image is made up of 44.8 gigapixels (44,804,687,500 pixels), and the distance between each pixel is 20 micrometres (0.02 mm). This enables the scientists to study the painting in detail remotely. The image will also be used to accurately track any future ageing processes taking place in the painting.
Not quite as well known as the Mona Lisa, The Night Watch is still one of the great master paintings. Like the Mona Lisa, if you do get to see the painting in person, you are kept at enough of a distance away that it is impossible to truly see any of the detail.
With this hyper-resolution release, you now have the chance to see this painting up close. The detail is amazing. Check out the lace collar (the brightest center of the image), zoom in to first see the lace, then a bit more to appreciate the brush strokes that create the illusion of lace.
Amazing also is the smoothness of the interface. Scrolling is effortless, with no lag. Brilliant work.
Mashup of more than 50 songs from 1984
[VIDEO] Another in the series of music-by-year mashups from The Hood Internet. These started with 1979 and have, year-by-year, made their way to 1984. They are all fun to watch, especially if you have a sense of music in the ’80s. Video embedded in main Loop post.
Apple TV+ offers tour of For All Mankind moon base
[VIDEO] From the video writeup:
Take a guided tour of For All Mankind’s first lunar base. Former Astronaut and technical advisor Garrett Reisman helps show us around Jamestown.
Pretty well done. Video embedded in main Loop post.
All the WWDC 2020 Memoji
I absolutely love the Memoji artwork pulled together by the WWDC team. The faces are hidden, buried in MacBooks, shot with a Portrait Lighting effect, a combination of dark, eerie, and whimsy. Delicious!
Rene Ritchie on the new 13″ MacBook Pro
[VIDEO] A river of detail, sorted. Video embedded in main Loop post.
I also found this Reddit thread extremely useful. Not the original post necessarily, as much as the comments that followed, especially the discussion of the various levels of graphics performance with each model.
Apple TV+: Trying, first look
[VIDEO] If the new Apple TV+ show “Trying” is not on your radar, take a look at the “first look” trailer embedded in the main Loop post. It does a great job showing off the tone of the show, the charm of its characters.
The show hails from BBC Studios and is distributed by Apple TV+. A second season has already been signed. The show is available to watch now.
Making an electric guitar from LEGO
[VIDEO] I love the craftsmanship that went into this process. The creation of the mold, judicious use of epoxy, those amazing tools. This was cool to watch unfold. Video embedded in main Loop post.

Apple video: The Art of Music Production
[VIDEO] Apple (about the video embedded in the main Loop post):
Follow hitmaking, Grammy-nominated songwriter and music producer Oak Felder as he creates a new song. Along the way, he speaks about music production, creating his own unique sound, working with the world’s top artists, and what it means for young artists to have access to powerful technology.
Felder is impressive. He’s six foot, five inches, 400 pounds, with a mohawk. He’s charming, articulate, and full of passion.
I get that this is a marketing piece for Apple, but I was drawn in by Oak Felder, his charisma and his obvious talent.
Rene Ritchie and iJustine talk Final Cut Pro for iPad
[VIDEO] Rene Ritchie and iJustine make their livings using Final Cut Pro on the Mac. In this video (embedded in the main Loop post), they discuss the rumored emergence of Final Cut Pro for iPad. Lots of detail, smart questions.
Two things that stand out for me are the issues of RAM and storage space/management. How will iPad support resource hungry projects that take advantage of the much large RAM/storage of a specced out MacBook Pro or Mac Pro?
It’s all speculation, so take with a grain of salt, but this is a good case study if you are considering an iPad as a Mac replacement.

Here’s a link to the We Are One festival YouTube page.
Connecting the iPhone SE display to an iPhone 8
[VIDEO] If you teardown an iPhone SE and an iPhone 8, they look remarkably similar. We know the SE brings big camera and processor upgrades, but watch the video embedded in the main Loop post (it’s short) to get a sense of how much has stayed the same.
Rene Ritchie, video review of iPhone SE
[VIDEO] Typical Rene Ritchie video: Lots of detail, story well-told, well-filmed, well worth watching. Video embedded in main Loop post.
Interesting side note: Rene filmed this with chapter markers (they are detailed about 25 seconds in). Though the chapter markers do show up for me (as breaks in the progress indicator at the bottom of the video) in Chrome, they do not show up in Safari. But they do show up for Rene in the same version of Safari (I asked).
Anyone know why this would be? We’re both running the latest public release of Catalina and Safari. Ping me if you know why this is happening.

Apple TV+ gets down in Fraggle Rock
Hollywood Reporter:
Apple TV+ has picked up a shortform series from The Jim Henson Co. featuring the beloved stars of the 1980s favorite in a new adventure, called Fraggle Rock: Rock On. The show, which is now available for free on the streamer, features episodes that are between three and five minutes apiece. New episodes will debut Tuesdays on Apple TV+.
The teaser, embedded below, plays off the strength of that theme song, ear-wormed into a generation of kids (and adults).
For folks new to the Jim Henson series, here’s the original Fraggle Rock open.
HBO Max set to launch May 27th, buries the lede
From the HBO Max press release:
The slate includes the scripted comedy Love Life, starring Anna Kendrick; Sundance 2020 Official Selection feature documentary On the Record; underground ballroom dance competition series Legendary; Craftopia, hosted by YouTube sensation LaurDIY; the all-new Looney Tunes Cartoons, from Warner Bros. Animation; and Sesame Workshop’sThe Not Too Late Show with Elmo (full program details available below.)
And:
Max Originals will continue to premiere on the streamer at a regular cadence through summer and fall including The Flight Attendant, starring and executive produced by Kaley Cuoco, from Berlanti Productions and based on the novel by New York Times bestselling author Chris Bohjalian; the highly anticipated Friends unscripted cast reunion special; all-new original episodes of the critically acclaimed DC fan favorite Doom Patrol; the return of the critically beloved mystery comedy Search Party with a brand new season; the three-part documentary series Expecting Amy, an unfiltered and intimate view into comedian Amy Schumer’s life on tour creating a stand-up special during her difficult pregnancy; sci-fi series Raised by Wolves from director and executive producer Ridley Scott, the award-winning creator behind The Martian, Gladiator, and Blade Runner; the adult animated comedy Close Enough, from J.G. Quintel (creator of Cartoon Network’s Emmy-winning Regular Show), a hilarious look at the surreal life of a millennial family living with roommates; and Adventure Time: Distant Lands- BMO, the first of four breakout specials resurrecting Cartoon Network’s Emmy and Peabody award-winning franchise Adventure Time.
So far, no tentpole content. Interesting that they are leading the press release with all unknown material. Imagine if Disney Plus led their announcement with no Marvel, no Pixar, no big Disney titles, purely leaning on direct-to-video Disney movies.
Buried down below:
The new offering will be bundled with the HBO service including all of HBO’s premium originals such as Westworld, Big Little Lies, Game of Thrones, Sex and the City, Veep, The Wire, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Insecure, Succession,Watchmen, Barry, Euphoria, The Jinx, The Sopranos and more.
And:
Streaming for the first time ever in the U.S., 20 films from Japan’s legendary Studio Ghibli animation house will be available on HBO Max at launch, including Academy Award® winner Spirited Away and Academy Award nominees Howl’s Moving Castle and The Tale of the Princess Kaguya, as well as fan favorites My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke, Ponyo, and Kiki’s Delivery Service. Fans of all ages will be able to enjoy these wonder-filled films any time they want.
And:
Available films will include Casablanca, The Wizard of Oz, The Matrix, The Goonies, When Harry Met Sally, The Lord of the Rings, Citizen Kane, Gremlins, and the Lego movies, along with every DC film from the last decade, including Wonder Woman, Justice League, and every Batman and Superman movie from the last 40 years.
Way to bury the lede.

How iPhone LCD displays are made

Joanna Stern: Laptop webcam showdown
[VIDEO] Obviously, not a scientific review, but still worth watching (video embedded in main Loop post). I have spent a lot of time on Zoom this past week. Way more than I cared to, but that’s another story.
One lesson I learned: Lighting makes a huge difference. Do a search in YouTube for “Zoom lighting” and you’ll see a bunch of videos that lay out the basics.
Make the most of what you got.
Tim Cook, a voice of calm and reason
[VIDEO] Watch the video in the tweet below. Apple is working hard to help, ramping up a manufacturing chain to produce face shields for health workers, and getting those face shields into the hands of those who need them.
And sharing the details is Tim Cook, a calm, rational voice at the center of the storm. Well done Tim. Well done Apple.

Inside Apple TV+’s Amazing Stories
Have you watched Amazing Stories? If not, this will give you a taste. To me, this genre is interesting, sort of a palette cleanser between other shows. Like Little America, you can watch one, or binge the whole thing, stop any time you like.
I see this as the short story collection, a break from the commitment to a full length novel.
“This…”
[VIDEO] Longtime friend of The Loop Rene Ritchie has launched a new YouTube channel. Of course, go subscribe.
But that aside, check out the announcement video, embedded in the main Loop post. Playing off his “This…is Vector” open, Rene calls on a little help from his friends. Nice.
