Autism awareness, iPads and developers

April is Autism Awareness Month and while more children than ever are being diagnosed with Autism, many are finding a bit of relief by using some form of modern technology like Apple’s iPad. […]

Music & Memory

Music & Memory is a non-profit organization that brings personalized music into the lives of the elderly or infirm through digital music technology, vastly improving quality of life.

The group is also asking for donations of your old iPods. Sounds like a good cause to me.

Apple turns technology into art

Ben Bajarin:

They create objects of desire and out of that focus comes a visually and easy to use user experience paradigm that drives emotional responses in consumers of their products.

Great way to put it. Apple products, like few others, elicit a response from its users. It’s not just the design or the interface, it’s the whole package.

Innovator’s Dilemma

Simon Ly:

Essentially it turns around Apple’s complete willingness to destroy its own revenues. It built a phone that destroyed it’s major source of revenue, the iPod. It built Macbook Airs that have now disrupted another major source of revenue, their Macbook Pros. It built the iPad, which is already beginning to disrupt the Macbook itself.

Apple also killed off the iPod mini at the height of its popularity and introduced the iPod nano in its place. That completely disrupted the competition because at that time they were all trying to copy the mini.

iPocketWatch

The iPW (iPocketWatch) lets you wear your iPod Nano the old school way, on a chain, in the pocket.

Cool.

Apple confirms lower iAd pricing

Apple on Wednesday confirmed for The Loop that new pricing for developers and advertisers have been implemented on its iAd platform. The changes, according to one media agency executive, could help boost the platform into even more advertising budgets this year. […]

Apple pricing

Horace Dediu:

The evidence I see is that Apple does not change pricing but rather stakes out a specific price point as resonating with consumers given their positioning. They then doggedly stick to it. Competitors tend to exploit open price points or try to position with specs on the same spots Apple occupies.

Apple doesn’t do anything based on what its competition does, including price. Apple’s products are priced fairly and at what consumers can afford, and are willing to pay. The proof is the 37 million iPhones, 15million iPads, 15 million iPods, and 5 million Macs the company sold last quarter.

More iOS devices sold in Q1 than all Android devices

Matt Richman:

On Apple’s earnings call, Tim Cook told analysts that Apple sold over 62 million iOS devices during the fourth quarter, which is about 4 percent more than all of the Android devices sold during the same time period.

Clearly Apple is screwed and Android is winning.

Dating site for Apple fans gets an iPhone app

Diehard Mac & Apple fans often have a lot in common — personalities, creative professions, a similar sense of style and aesthetics, taste, and a love for technology. As Apple fans we love to hang out in cafés with our Macbooks and iPhones. Cupidtino is like that neighborhood café where the people are hip, decor is classy, conversation is intelligent and prices are reasonable. But it’s open at your convenience, folks are from around the world, and it’s less awkward to talk to someone.

If you’re going to meet someone with common interests, why not start off with an Apple fan.

Kodak sues Apple, HTC

Kodak claims Apple’s iPhones, iPads, and iPods, and some of HTC’s smartphones and tablets use Kodak patents for transmitting images. Kodak is seeking to prevent further patent infringement from Apple and HTC as well as compensation.

Kodak is on its last leg.

Ferraris and Fords

The consumer electronics market in 2012 can be easily summed up as Ferraris and Fords. Apple, of course, is the Ferrari of the tech market, while the competition is the Ford.

I’m not talking about speed, but rather the outlook on similar markets. […]

Definition of a tech migraine

That pain execs at HTC, Samsung, Google and RIM get when Apple announces a new product or initiative.

These are things they don’t want to blatantly copy, but because they want to keep up with Apple, they blatantly copy them anyway.

Apple didn’t invent ______, but Apple made it better

Every time you mention the fact that another loser competitor copied Apple, you always get the argument that “Apple didn’t invent that.” That may be true, but let’s look at some of the things that Apple didn’t invent, but made better. […]

Acer commits most blatant ripoff of Apple yet

Acer came up with a good idea. Let’s put pics, documents and media in the cloud and make them available to all of your devices… oh wait, that’s called iCloud. No matter, we’ll just steal the idea and call it AcerCloud. Oh and to save time, we might as well steal Apple’s presentation slide too […]

Apple’s iOS vs. all Android phones this quarter

Matt Richman:

Using those numbers, Apple will sell 59.38 million iOS devices, slightly less than devices running Android. But, if Apple does report “the largest blowout in company history”, then Apple will outsell every Android vendor combined.

Well that settles it, Android is winning.
