The first Planet Earth was a incredible visual feast. The trailer for the sequel looks just as amazing.
The quest to make a true blue M&M
Really interesting article about the industry’s search for natural alternatives for the colors found in many of our favorite foods.
The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus Review: Iterating on a Flagship
This is the typical long, technical and very well done review from the folks at AnandTech. Settle in for a while to read more detail on the new phones than any other publication can manage.
Apple Watches banned from UK Cabinet after ministers warned devices could be vulnerable to hacking
It’s unclear how much of this can be put down to general (possibly misguided) fear of what might happen versus there being an actual threat or possibility.
Samsung temporarily suspends production of Galaxy Note 7
Certainly the death knell of the Galaxy Note 7. The next question is, how will it affect Samsung’s brand and sales going forward?
Music of the presses: how an L.A. printer kept the art of the album cover alive
I miss album cover art more than I miss the sound of vinyl.
How to get an alert when an app accesses the webcam or mic in macOS
This may be unnecessarily paranoid but sometimes it’s better to be safe than sorry. Or at least in the case of this app, aware of what’s going on.
This brilliant iPhone hack is the perfect solution to that “ducking” autocorrect problem
In the grand scheme of things, this is a minor problem but it is an incredible annoyance to those of us with foul mouths.
Crushing metal pipes with hydraulic press
How much fun would it be to have one of these presses? I’d be crushing things all day long.
Which type of Canadian are you? Answer these questions to find out
One of the problems we Canadians have always had is that of “national identity”. Even if you’re not Canadian, it might be fun to see where you might fit in this wonderful country. In the interest of full disclosure, I’m a “Permissive Reformer”.
Update the Nobel Prizes
Like many things, the Nobel is a product of its time. Does it need to be updated to reflect the 21st century and not the 19th?
How is the world feeling?
These kinds of studies and surveys are what I magine Apple envisioned when they created the infrastructure for these apps.
Meeting “The Boss”
My friend Sly has been a lifelong fan of Bruce Springsteen. I’m so happy for her to have been able to meet him, even if for only a few brief moments. Read this story and ask yourself, what hero/idol would you like to meet? Or do you believe it’s true you shouldn’t meet your idols? I’m very glad Sly met hers.
Stevie Wonder’s ‘Songs in the Key of Life’ turns 40: The masterpiece that captured every color of life

This is how the Canadian public broadcaster explains the US election process to my fellow Canadians.
The ill-fated tale of Phoneys, the stupid little sticker pack that went #1 on the App Store
Fascinating story of the behind the scenes process. Good to see Apple taken a more measured approach. Rather than yanking the app, they contacted the developer to request changes be made.
iPhone 7 Plus depth effect is legit
It doesn’t work all the time, every time like a DSLR does but, for the vast majority of people who don’t lug around a DSLR every day, Portrait Mode will work just fine for them.

Those are big science-y words. If you live in most of Canada or in the most northerly parts of the contiguous United States, as well as parts of northern Europe, get outside tonight and look north to see this spectacular sky display.

As a guy who loves behind the scenes type stuff, this is really tempting.
Life on Bluenose II
As a proud Nova Scotianer, every time I see images of the Bluenose II, I well up a little bit. The first image in the linked story literally caused tears of happiness at seeing two of the most iconic images of Nova Scotia. I was lucky enough to be a deck hand one summer, an experience I’ll never forget. It’s a beautiful ship with a wonderful back story. If you ever get a chance to walk its deck or go sailing on it, you won’t regret it.
ReflexLOLogy: Inside the groan-inducing world of pun competitions
I had a girlfriend in college who would have been really good at these competitions. I hated her.
Bruce Springsteen live in conversation with Apple’s Eddy Cue
Many people, including my good friend Sly Marton, are incredibly excited to see this interview and to read Springsteen’s new memoir.
Debunking the myth of the ‘real’ Robinson Crusoe
Like many of you, I read and was enamored of the novel and movie as a kid. I’d heard of Selkirk’s connection but didn’t realize it was mostly false.
Apple’s first China research center will develop hardware, landlord says
China is extraordinarily important to Apple. This is the first in a series of these kinds of investments.
F1 driver making wheel adjustments
I love racing. I prefer MotoGp motorcycle racing but I like watching F1 as well. I knew about the gearshifts (obviously) but I had no idea the driver was doing so many other things during a lap.
Apple logs your iMessage contacts — and may share them with police
This might be minor or it might be significant, depending on how the information is being used. Regardless, it’s a peek behind the security curtain that tells us we may not be as secure or “hidden” from prying eyes as we would think or hope.
J.D. Power ranks Apple Music #1 for customer sat in its first streaming music study
Apple may have come out on top but its position isn’t as rock solid as it is with their other products and services. They still have a lot of work to do.

More than you ever wanted to know about power adapters.
Apple to move London headquarters to Battersea Power Station
From the looks of the location, Apple will have a lot of work to do in renovations but it looks like a great building to work with and in.
