Starting on Monday, October 23, iPhone Upgrade Program customers will be able to get a “head start” on the iPhone X pre-order process by getting pre-approved for an iPhone Upgrade Program loan.
If you are part of the iPhone Upgrade Program, this is worth a look, will get you through checkout that much quicker this Friday.
No such luck in the UK

I was up at midnight trying to get this started. Still no luck some 10hr later. Do we need to receive an invite to pre-approve? On the AppleStore App, it says customers may be eligible to get a head start. I hope I am one of those who is eligible.
Uh yeah, the button to click for the iPhone X is greyed out. It is October 23. Do they h ave a specific time in mind as well?
I did the exact same thing all for nothing it is a little confusing I am not sure what the hold up is!

I completed a chat session with @AppleSupport and they confirmed that nobody can see the upgrade option, they just said “try later”

“Thank you for making sure that you are able to do the preapproval. The pre approval will indeed start today on the Apple Store App. As of now though, the Apple is still updating the app to initiate the pre approval process. Please check back later today once the all the Apple update has been completed.
It will be best to check the app again after 2 hours.”

Try restarting your iDevice and try again. Best to use the Apple Store App on the device you are on the upgrade program with!
I had the same process. Greyed out iPhone X icon all morning. Chatted with Apple. Told they were aware and to keep trying. Reloaded the app every few minutes for maybe 45 minutes and then instead of the phone choice screen I got something new and the process began. Also, the first time I tried, it hung at the end and I had to start again, but the second time it was successful.
