Mark Knopfler, best known as the singer, lead guitarist and songwriter for Dire Straits (Sultans of Swing, many others), talks about learning to play the guitar. He starts with the most basic of techniques, then slowly folds in the moves that took him places.

I wish Apple Music would create a program around videos like these from the pros, on par with Masterclass.com. Get legendary musicians to provide a deep dive on their method or on the genesis of their iconic songs. I’d pay to see that. It Might Get Loud comes to mind as a close simulation for the format.

Knopfler is a genius. His movie soundtracks are incredible (Local Hero, the Prince Bride, among others) and his work with Dire Straights but also Chet Atkins and others is fantastic. Kopfler and Clapton… wow.
Enjoyed this. Something tells me he probably spends 8 hours a day sittin’ around fiddlin’ with his guitars just like he did here.
