Spiderweb Software has announced the forthcoming release of Avernum: Escape from the Pit, a reboot of their popular “classic”-style role playing game series. The game is coming to Mac OS X, Windows and iPad.

[ad#Google Adsense 300×250 in story]Avernum: Escape from the Pit casts you in the role of a victim of the cruel Emperor Hawthorne, cast into a subterranean exile. Like other Avernites who have struggled with their fate, you can master magic and combat to fight for safety and lead the way to the surface – and to freedom.

The game features up to three game-winning quests, massive tunnels and caverns, eighty towns and dungeons, dozens of spells and battle disciplines and hundreds of magic artifacts.

Avernum: Escape from the Pit is scheduled for a release in the fourth calendar quarter of 2011. The iPad version will follow in the first quarter of 2012.
