∞ ∞ Apple adds Raw support for eleven more cameras

Apple has updated the Digital Camera RAW Compatibility software used by iPhoto ’11 and Aperture 3 to version 3.9, and with it, added support for 11 more digital cameras. They include:

Canon PowerShot S100
Nikon 1 J1
Nikon 1 V1
Nikon COOLPIX P7100
Olympus PEN E-PL1s
Olympus PEN E-PL3
Olympus PEN E-PM1
Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FZ150
Sony Alpha

∞ Trading in iCloud photo stream

iCloud’s Photo Stream feature is handy, in that it pushes photos shot with a compatible iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to Apple’s servers and then back to other authorized devices. It’s a hindrance for the same reason, in that my iPhone, iPad and Mac are now cluttered with space-hogging one-offs I shot for the sake of a tweet or a Facebook update.

I haven’t noticed this myself, but perhaps I just don’t take enough pictures for it to be a problem.

Apple on Wednesday released iPhoto 9.2 and Aperture 3.2, updates to its consumer and professional photo organizing software, respectively. Both updates supports compatibility with iCloud and iOS 5, according to Apple.

iPhoto 9.2 also addresses minor stability, performance and compatibility issues, including:

Left and right swipe gestures can now be used to navigate between photos in Magnify (1-up) view
Previously imported photos are now displayed in a separate section of

Apple has released Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update 3.8. The software is available for download from Apple’s Web site and through the Software Update system preference.

This update is to the system software Mac OS X 10.6.5 and higher (including Lion) uses to manage input from cameras that produce digital “raw” files – the digital equivalent of a film negative. The software is used by both Apple’s Aperture 3 and iPhoto ’11

Apple has updated three of the applications it includes in its iLife ’11 suite of applications – iMovie, Garageband, and iPhoto. The new versions, 9.0.4, 6.0.4 and 9.1.5 respectively, are available for download through the Software Update system preference.
