An excerpt from John Buck’s book “Timeline”:

Jobs approached Adobe Systems, and asked them to create a consumer version of Premiere that Apple could bundle with the unreleased Mac code-named Kihei. With Apple’s future still uncertain, and Premiere sales growing on the Wintel platform, Adobe said no.

Like so many other things, Jobs was driven by a belief that he was right. When Adobe said no, Jobs created the applications division at Apple that gave us so many great apps over the years.

Apple on Tuesday released a major new version of Final Cut Pro X, the first update to the company’s professional video application since it was released in late June.

Final Cut Pro X 10.0.1 focuses on implementing the top user requested features into the application to help professionals get their work done more efficiently.

Earlier today, Mac Rumors noted that Apple was once again selling Final Cut Studio to people that called the company’s sales line. Apple tonight, explained what’s going on.

The pro market is too small for Apple to care about it. Instead of trying to get hundreds or even thousands of video professionals to buy new Macs, they can nail the pro-sumer market and sell to hundreds of thousands of hobbyists like me.

This little tidbit comes from Sachin Agarwal, founder and CEO of Posterous, and a long time employee of Apple working on Final Cut Pro.

Final Cut Pro is making a big splash at NAB tonight, as Apple showed off the latest version of the video application.

While the company wouldn’t give much information about the other apps in the suite — Motion, Soundtrack Pro, Color, Compressor and DVD Studio Pro — Apple did tell The Loop to “stay tuned.”

Apple demoed the new software during the SuperMeet at NAB on Wednesday night. According to Macgasm, who has been following several Twitter people attending the event, Final Cut Pro X features full color management via ColorSync.

I talked to Apple today and they said its pro apps are staying pro and its customers will be pleased. No doubt they’ll continue to add consumer and prosumer features, but there are a lot of pros out there that rely on these apps.
