∞ Adobe to cut 750 jobs

MarketWatch:

Adobe Systems on Tuesday said it is cutting about 750 jobs, mainly in North America and Europe as part of a restructuring of the company. The company said it expects to record about $87 million to $94 million in pre-tax restructuring charges.

∞ ∞ Photoshop Elements 10, Premiere Elements 10 in the Mac App Store

Two of Adobe’s newest applications for the Mac have made their way onto the Mac App Store. Photoshop Elements 10 and Premiere Elements 10 are both available on Apple’s software store for download. Both applications cost $79.99 and weigh-in at about 1GB each. The Elements moniker signifies that these are Adobe’s consumer-level applications, but based on their professional counterpart.

Adobe will announce on Thursday that demand for its Production Premium CS5.5 video tools has exploded this year, and they have Apple to thank.

Demand for Adobe’s video creation tools has grown 22 percent year-over-year, but the big news is on the Mac side. The company said that it’s seen 45 percent growth on the Mac.

Adobe says the growth on the Mac is fueled by the large number of Final Cut Pro X users switching to Premiere Pro.

Adobe unveiled the latest major release of its Creative Suite product line, introducing many new features in the applications. The company also changed the release schedule for future major releases of the suite.

Calling Creative Suite 5.5 a “mid-cycle product release,” Adobe said it focused on three main areas: Proliferation of Devices; Design and Interactivity; and Monetization.

“Our customers are faced with the opportunity to reach more customers through mobile devices than the desktop,” Dave Burkett, Vice President and General Manager, Adobe Creative Suite Design and Web Segments, told The Loop. “That’s a real game changer.”

Mozilla VP of products Jay Sullivan calls HTML5 “the longer-term answer” to problems caused by Adobe Flash.
