But you can’t catch ‘em all on your wrist

You can now hatch pokémon eggs on your wrist: today developer Niantic announced that the Apple Watch version of Pokémon Go is finally available. The smartwatch version of the game was first announced back in September.

Naturally, the Apple Watch version of Pokémon Go isn’t the full game, but instead connects to the mobile game and lets you perform certain in-game activities without having to pull out your phone. You won’t be able to actually catch pokémon with your watch, but you can collect items from pokéstops and see nearby monsters with a simple tap. Here’s what the new app will let you do, according to Niantic:

Pokémon Go Apple Watch
  • Log each play session as a workout, with gameplay counting toward personal activity rings
  • Receive notifications about nearby pokémon
  • Count distance toward hatching pokémon eggs and receiving candy with your buddy pokémon
  • Receive notifications about pokéStops nearby and collect items from them
  • Receive notifications when eggs hatch and medals are awarded

The Apple Watch launch caps off a busy month for Pokémon Go, which received a slew of updates as Niantic attempted to lure players back to the monster-catching game. Over the past few weeks the developer has launched new in-game events, partnered with Starbucks and Sprint for sponsored pokéstops and gyms, released the game in big new markets like India, and even added a few new creatures to collect.
