Relax with Zen Mode, a new way to experience Alto’s Adventure

We always wanted Alto’s Adventure to be a relaxing experience for players.

Throughout development, testing the game became a nice way to unwind after a busy day. Since release, lots of players have reached out to tell us they feel the same way. Pretty recently, though, we received a truly touching email from a player named James, telling us how Alto has helped him personally:

We’ve received a number of emails like this over the past year, and that got us thinking – maybe we could push things further and create a new, dedicated experience that could help players to unwind, for all those times when catching llamas and chasing high scores isn’t high on the agenda.

Introducing Zen Mode

Zen Mode is a new way to experience the game. We’ve stripped away many things from hillside; no scores, no coins, no powerups, and distilled the game down to its purest elements. There’s no on-screen UI competing for your attention – it’s just you and the endless mountain.

This means all the pleasure of play, with no consequences. If you crash, you can pick yourself up and continue down the slopes. We hope this makes Zen Mode especially fun for younger children who enjoy playing the game, but perhaps struggle with some of the more challenging aspects.

We’ve also commissioned an entirely new soundtrack from composer Torin Borrowdale. We asked Torin to take inspiration from the original piece, but create something altogether more serene, calming and immersive. We’re all big fans of what he’s done, and we hope you enjoy it too!

Finally, if you hit pause during Zen Mode, you’ll discover another new great new feature we’re bringing to Alto’s Adventure…

Photo Mode

Photo Mode puts you behind the lens to capture stunning photos of your own personal adventures through the snow.

It’s a lot more than just a screenshot button. You can swipe to pan and pinch to zoom to help you frame that perfect shot. For example if you find a tree is blocking your view, simply drag to the left or right to bring Alto into frame, just as you would in real life.

Pressing pause during Zen Mode will automatically bring you into Photo Mode. However you can also access it while playing the standard mode by pausing the game and tapping on the new camera icon.

After you’ve taken the perfect shot, you can share it directly to a wide range of services including Facebook, Twitter, and more – or simply save it to your device for later (and for sharing on Instagram)!

We’re really excited to see the kinds of shots people take and share as they careen down the mountain, camera in hand.

Be sure to use the hashtag #AltosAdventure when sharing your creations!

*Note: Photo Mode is only for iPhone and iPad (not tvOS)*

Support for 3 new languages

We’ve also added support for three new languages:

• Arabic
• Polish
• Turkish

… as well as making a number of other minor tweaks and improvements across the board.

Update Alto’s Adventure from the App Store on both iOS and tvOS to start playing today. The update will also be coming to Google Play soon.
