I'll be watching you —

Planes, trains, and automobiles up close from afar with Nikon’s 83× zoom

We take another look at NYC with Nikon's incredible camera.

We were blown away by what Nikon's 83× Coolpix P900 superzoom could do when we first gave it a spin from the top of the World Trade Center in New York.

Since then we've given the 2,000mm-equivalent system a spin all around New York City, and the camera continues to impress us with what it can do. You can watch planes from miles away, check out hipsters and tourists on the Brooklyn Bridge, and get a close up look at rich people zooming around in helicopters. This remarkable $599 camera lets you watch while completely unobserved from distances so great that people can't even see you, much less know that you're watching them.

We're a little surprised that nobody has yet mounted one of these cameras to a drone. While keeping the thing steady will be an issue, the result should be a spy camera that'd make everyone but the NSA excited.

Of course, there's more to this than voyeurism. This video of the moon shows that for the brighter objects in the night sky, the camera's a good match for a telescope, and we imagine that wildlife photographers will have more than a little interest in this technological marvel, too.
