Apple retail chief Angela Ahrendts has a new vision for these stores: They should be “town squares,” places where people meet up with friends, attend concerts and take classes.
CNBC’s Josh Lipton caught up with Apple’s senior VP of retail, Angela Ahrendts, to talk about her vision for the company’s retail outlets.
Apple is usually pretty good about not “encouraging” customers to buy more than they need.
I wonder how many people (as a percentage of the total) come in really not knowing which phone that they want.
I think most people come in with strong preferences, but make their final decision after seeing comparisons.
I like to think people see something shiny on tv or in someone else’s hand, then go to a store to see how they feel in person.
Person A picks up an 8, seems happy. Then picks up an 8+ with wide eyes, and A’s spouse quickly says “You’ll never fit that in the pockets of those pants you like. Just saying.”

The iPhone X is going to be like the introduction of the MacBook Air or newer MacBook. The existing line will be better for a year or two while they mature the product.
A lot of it depends on what you use it for. I get your point that the iPhone is probably the best pick for most people.
I bought the 7+ for the camera and don’t regret it one bit. It’s now my everyday camera. My spouse is buying the 8+ for the same reason.
This was my first thought, too, but the more I think about it the less I think there is to go wrong with the iPhone X. There are huge changes in this phone, but very few of them seem to involve a reliability challenge at the hardware level.

as a former (longtime) apple retail employee, i can tell you that “upselling” was never part of any conversation, either specifically or implicitly.
The biggest exception is the AMOLED screen, and surely Samsung can pull that off?
The original author didn’t create fake accounts. This has happened to me, too, and I think it’s a script creating new accounts and re-posting comments from other users in an attempt to look non-spammy.
In short, Disqus’s spam prevention is a dumpster fire.
Have you ever been upsold on anything at an Apple store? In my experience, they didn’t even try to talk people out of the 16GB tier.

No. But it seems a rather odd statement to make nonetheless. Why would you want to emphasize you business is not “upselling”? Even if its only about features and not price, it’s still a form of “upselling”, isn’t it? I guess if your just in the market for a bare bones phone where screen size doesn’t matter, then you would “downsell” them, or steer them towards the iPhone SE? I don’t know, it just seems like an odd thing to say in an interview.
