There’s a lot goin on in this video. Sometimes the value is not in the tip itself, but in the journey, the exploration, the techniques involved in bringing the tip to life. A lot of little nuggets here. Worth your time.
I don’t know, I watched the first two, and it doesn’t seem worth my time. 🙂 If you’re used to Finder and how directories work, the first two are pretty straightforward.
I guess I find videos like this to be better as articles, because when I see a Mac tips article I usually know 90-95% of them, but can quickly skim and learn the 5% that’s new to me. Whereas with a video, it’s a lot more work and I tend to give up.
Totally agree, it takes a LOT for me to watch a video but I’ll read most articles. Videos take 10x the time.
The Save As tip is one I definitely will use. Seems the way the system should be by default.

Ok, not sure the ‘Save As…’ trick actually works. Yes, it shows the menu item and executing it brings up the dialog allowing you to choose a new name, but it still updates both the old and new files with the changes.
Don’t believe me? Try this:
‘Joe.rtf’ now says ‘Joe Mama’, as does ‘Mama.rtf’.
In other words, it still does exactly the same *!@# as ‘Duplicate!
I’ve been fighting this forever and got excited when I saw the ‘Save As…’ years ago (when they first made this change) but it still has this stupid behavior!
My guess is the only difference between ‘Duplicate’ and ‘Save As…’ is that the latter asks you for a filename and saves it while the former just opens it as an in-memory copy. But in both cases, it writes the changes to the original first. In other words, it’s still ‘Duplicate’ but with the addition of it saving the new ‘copy’.
I have lost too much work as a result of this ridiculous fail by them. I now just usually create a new document and paste in the changes rather than dealing with Apple and the stupid, stupid ‘Duplicate’ nonsense.
I have an approximately 80,000-word Pages document that I use in my daily work. It contains important text snippets of various types.
A couple years ago this document became glitchy, and I eventually realized I’d been a victim of Apple’s then-new “Save As.” Now I have two large non-identical documents, and until I dedicate many hours into sorting through and condensing them back into one, I have to constantly bounce back and forth between them to find the specific text I’m looking for.
This is one of the few Apple mis-steps that I personally consider completely indefensible and user-hostile. To benefit… who? What?
I feel ya! I just switched to non-Apple software (VS Code, etc.) to get around this crap. Not sure why they insist on sticking with this useless feature. I have yet to find a single use-case for it, and this is after years. That compared to ‘Save as…’ which I use daily. WTF, Apple?!
