New Emirates First Class suite

Uncrate:

Emirates unveiled its new first class suites for its Boeing 777 and the amenities surpass most luxury hotels. Inspired by the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, each zero-gravity seat is enclosed in its own cabin with floor-to-ceiling sliding doors for complete privacy. Everything from the 32-inch TV screen, lights, and temperature are remote controlled. For those not lucky enough to snag a window seat, each interior room is equipped with its own virtual windows that project the view from outside the aircraft using real-time camera technology.

I’ve flown First Class before but I can’t imagine ever being able to afford First Class at this level. That’s a real shame because I’m headed to Australia in a few weeks and the flight is literally 24 hours in total. I’d love this “suite”.

The trick is not to spend $$$, but to use points/miles where you can. That said, this does require a bit of work, and doesn’t work if your dates are very fixed.

I was surprised to hear the flight from Canada to Australia is that long as its only 26 hours from UK to New Zealand. Done that a few times – its gruelling. Looking at a globe though it makes sense.

    • Yeah – the Pacific is a BIG ocean. 🙁

  • I once got upgraded at the gate (no idea why) to first class on Qatar Air for a very long flight. The first class was pretty much like this. It was as if I had my own apartment. Also the menu was better than most fancy restaurants, the bathroom was so spacious that there was a sofa in the room, and there was an open bar (as in lounge) with a ridiculously gorgeous bartender.

After a while an attendant came to the lounge and asked if I would like my bed prepared. Folded on the bed was a new set of fancy pajamas. The entire experience was absurdly decadent.

    • ah, nothing like opulent oil money while your people live in mud huts….

      • I’d never seen Qatar before, and was only changing flights there. The airport itself was very nice, and amazingly they had tables full of new iMacs for public use. From the air as we left though it was a different story. Sand as far as the eye could see, with building after building having one side covered with a mound of wind-swept sand. It must be a constant battle each morning to move away the sand, and in the more sparse areas people had clearly given up on doing so. I can’t imagine how miserable it must be for 90% of the people who live there.
