Apple is up to something in Hollywood

Heartfelt shout-outs to Tim Cook from the Emmys and Oscars stages — how would that sound? Or lest we get too ahead of ourselves, how about a title card that reads “Apple Films” or “An Apple Original Series” in front of your favorite new movie or TV show?

It all has a bit of a ring to it, right?

This is a fascinating read. We all know that Apple is interested in expanding into video, but they are going to have to do something more than a series featuring Dre or Planet of the Apps if they want to be serious about it.

    Notional future content notwithstanding, I still hanker for an Apple-run ISP. I don’t need them to make my television; I need them to provide a dumb pipe.

    Please buy Tesla instead of Disney.

    The world needs a better Apple designed infrastructure to support our lives and nurture our creativity, not more content to distract us from a calling higher than watching game shows on our iPhones.

    Feed the creators, not just the consumers.

    There is too much content in the world for any of it to be worthwhile. We don’t need any more. Spend your money to create products that move the ball forward.

  • Seems to me like the logical path is to avoid scripted content and continue to focus like a laser on being a first-rate conduit (read: hardware) for platforms like Netflix, Hulu, HBO, et al., to say nothing about all of the music and movie studios’ content available through iTunes and the broader Internet,

    If creating content is unavoidable, expand unique efforts such as The iTunes Festival, and its broadcast, which is in iTunes’ wheelhouse, rather than invest in scripted entertainment. The scripted stuff is being done by others…and all of that content can be accessed on all of Apple’s hardware right now.
