Adobe Lightroom now lets you edit RAW files on your phone

Adobe:

Raw support is here! With this Technology Preview you can import and edit the raw photos you take with your camera. You can also sync these photos and edits back to Lightroom CC on your computer and local Adjustments lets you selectively apply Exposure, Brightness, Clarity, and other adjustments to a specific part of a photo.

This could be a big deal for Lightroom users who want to edit photos while away from a computer.

  1. Useful, yes. A big deal? Not if one is a serious photographer. You cannot do serious editing on a phone size screen; raw or jpeg.

  2. Feature is only available to Creative Cloud subscribers which is disappointing.

  3. Of course it’s disappointing to not get something you don’t pay for! But it’s good news for Creative Cloud subscribers! Adobe keeps adding value to our subscriptions, and others keep losing out.

  4. To be precise, one could edit DNG files already before in Lightroom Mobile. The difference now is that you can edit .NEF or .CRW files. For this to be useful, one would have to transfer files from camera to phone and presumably onto the cloud, while doing some basic editing on the phone. Game changer? Nah.

On the other hand, iPhones will capture in RAW from September on. Perhaps then, RAW editing in Lightroom Mobile will be more meaningful.

  5. It is almost meaningless for you to have this feature if you are not a CC subscriber. Just think, in what scenario would this be essential to you since you probably don’t have Lightroom Mobile without being a CC member anyhow. Think first, dude.

  6. Well, yes. Although the degree of value they’re adding to a set of mature apps is debatable.
