Reuters:
Israel’s Cellebrite, a provider of mobile forensic software, is helping the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation’s attempt to unlock an iPhone used by one of the San Bernardino, California shooters, the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported on Wednesday.
If Cellebrite succeeds, then the FBI will no longer need the help of Apple Inc, the Israeli daily said, citing unnamed industry sources.
If Cellebrite succeeds, that won’t be the end of the story, just the end of this chapter.
It would be interesting if Cellebrite succeeded and Apple sued the FBI for details. It would never happen, of course, but do y’all think they’d have a case?
Cellebrite isn’t a new avenue that just came to the FBI’s attention. In fact, the FBI cited Cellibrite in a warrant request over accessing a locked iPhone 6 on the same day that it received the All Writs Act based order for Apple to give the FBI access to the 5s in the San Bernardino case.

Apple fanboys will disagree in chorus, but this is a good thing.
Yes, but Cellebrite needed time.
Time isn’t a factor. The FBI’s technology department isn’t a factor either. The factor in play is the FBI’s desire to compel individuals, groups, corporations, and the public as a whole into a state of constant surveillance.
