The Pencil really defines this product. A lot of developers are also just getting the iPad. This looks like it will be 2-3 month rollout.

Lame. They should have just held back the iPad Pro. Instead of going in to the Apple Store yesterday to get one, I decided to wait. I know a few others doing the same. By the time the pen becomes available I may already be over it depending on the reviews etc.
if they waited another month they’d miss holiday sales. this is a business, after all.

Mine says 3-4 weeks… I forgot to check at midnight, so didn’t get my order in until 9am et, are the folks that ordered first getting a pencil earlier?
As much as I’m dying to use it, I don’t think it’s quite “joyless” – I mean, I have a giant iPad right now, and even drawing on it with the old capacitance pen is a joy because of the bigger screen. The extra real estate makes tons of tasks easier. I can see using keynote and pages for a lot of my day to day stuff on the iPad now, whereas before I would iPad it just occasionally when I had no computer access. I’ve only just begun to use the pro, but already can’t see working without it. Moving to this screen was like moving to the 5k iMac screen.
This just reminds me how much the guys at 53 must be feeling both half destroyed and vindicated by the Apple Pencil.
I have one of their Pencils, and it’s a fun – and very well made – toy.
But if it worked with everything, rather than just Paper, it’d be more than a toy.

I ordered at 3am Pacific, thanks to Jim! I just happened to be up and saw his post in my RSS that orders were open… I thought it was going to be after midnight Wednesday, not Tuesday.
It shows the Pencil as shipping in 1 to 2 weeks.
Definitely a weird rollout, for sure. I wonder what it is with the pencil that’s holding it up.
On a wholly unrelated note, nothing says “pro” like a super long lightning cable…
I ordered at 3:15am EST and got shipping in 5-7 business days on the pencil….
Ah well, I snooze, I lose. Maybe I can pick one up at a store here if I get lucky…
those details are likely why they didn’t really ‘launch’ the Pro. it just went on sale.
The accessory delay tells me that Apple pushed the iPad out early for holiday sales.
