Apple Boot Camp No Longer Requires USB Flash Drive to Install Windows in El Capitan

Some very interesting changes in how Windows is installed in Boot Camp on OS X 10.11 “El Capitan”. When you open Boot Camp Assistant on a new Mac that supports Windows 8 or later, you’ll get the new Boot Camp interface.

Good information if you use Boot Camp.

  1. I have a macbook pro 15″ early 2011, I have OS X 10.11 El Capitan, I want to install windows 8.1.

the First of all Im not getting that option on my version of bootcamp, I only have the same two options. I have a usb with windows and bootcamp on it. but whenever I try to install windows 8.1 I get the message
“Windows cannot be installed on this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only installed on GPT”

I have been trying to get windows 8.1 for about 3 days now..
before upgrading to El Capitan, I tried FDISK which got me passed that issue, but after the installation finished I got the message windows cannot continue to the booting phase..

anyway now that I have El Capitan i can’t install FDISK and I can’t edit info.plist, to make a proper usb drive, and btw my superdrive isn’t working either, So I just need a freakin solution.

  3. Ahmed,

I think I know the solution to your problem.

If you can get yourself to the installation part, and actually have it start copying files, then you can try this:

Before starting the Windows installer, reset the PRAM holding down the usual keys at startup, and then run the installer again, it wont mention about not updating the boot record, and It will complete installation.

I can get a copy installed on my mid 2010 MBP, but the intel drivers crash my system every time.

    Hope this helps you.
