An amateurish dick measuring contest

Samantha Bielefeld talking about The Verge:

> What I would like to see is the author not afraid to bite the hand that feeds, to confront the real issue here…the problem isn’t with there being advertising on the web driven by page impressions. The issue is how awful they look, how invasive they can be (auto-play audio/video, yuck!), their attempts at deceiving your website’s audience, and tracking your every mouse click or tap around the web in order to serve their own needs while sacrificing the privacy of the customers they are seeking to gain.

Great read.

Agreed. The follow article with his response to the article is great. He has no clue.

Not much of a contest, a bigger dick than Nilay Patel will be hard to find unless you reach into other subject matters like finance.

What amazes me most is how similar, almost virtually identical, the various statements on multiple sites (this one and a few others excluded) have been. They all made the same wrong comparisons (tv and print, no tracking and no obscuring of content on either), they all carefully avoided even mentioning tracking and analysis… If I were a conspiracy nut, I would assume they all got their talking points from the same shills at Google 🙂 Well, even not being a conspiracy nut…

I agree. Nilay Patel has amazed me frequently by being incredibly dickheaded, and that recent “welcome to hell” piece has been the pinnacle of dickheadedness. Since then, I have decided to drop The Verge from my daily reads. Haven’t missed it much so far.
