This is one of those pictures that supposedly says so much about how we are so plugged into our electronics that we are missing the world around us and not connecting with people at the same table as us. However, it could be that this man has been watching whales all day long and now is sitting to handle some text messages or even sending out some great pics he took during the day. Nothing wrong with that.

I’m sure people look at my wife and I funny when we are out eating. Usually she is on her phone checking one thing or another while I finish dinner or lunch. I’m a very slow eater, and I have no problem with her looking at things while I finish. If I talk, it just mens I’m even slower. We’d be there for hours. 🙂 And yet, I know people judge us as one of those couple too wrapped up in our phones instead of each other, which is utter bullshit.

My takeaway from pictures like this: Be careful how you judge things. It’s very likely something very different from what you think.

  2. Read the article. the captain of this sail boat parked it too close to the mother whale and newborn calf, people tried to get him to move back but he wouldn’t. the mother whale was annoyed and tried to show it. and then he missed the photo op they were aggressively camped out for. ass hattery all the way.

Your invented narrative has nothing to do with reality. And your dinners sound dreadful.

  3. Thanks for judging my dinners. You proved my point about judgmental asses. (At least in this case, since seems we agree on quite a lot here otherwise. It’s okay. I can be an ass, too.)

I will admit I didn’t read the article. Even with the backstory, however, the picture is going around virally, which means people are seeing someone missing the moment because of his phone. It’s a good lesson, but says as much about the person looking at the picture as it does the person in the picture. There are multiple reasons for what the guy is doing, including the actual backstory.

Too many critics these days, and not enough self-reflection.
