Apple’s statement on the WireLurker malware

Earlier today we posted news of new malware targeted at users in China. An Apple spokesperson sent this statement to me:

“We are aware of malicious software available from a download site aimed at users in China, and we’ve blocked the identified apps to prevent them from launching. As always, we recommend that users download and install software from trusted sources.”

Quick action and good advice from Apple.

  • NPR reporting this as significant because Apple devices had been considered impervious “from viruses”. morons.

      Not a virus… moron

I think that’s Kyron’s point. NPR is calling it a virus while taking pot shots at Apple. When Apple never said it was immune to viruses just PC viruses. And this isn’t even a virus

Just be sure that in your System Preferences; Security and Privacy, that you ‘Allow apps downloaded from: Mac App Store [and] identified developers.’
