More car manufacturers commit to Apple’s CarPlay

Apple’s CarPlay is really catching on manufacturers. On Tuesday, nine new car-makers, including Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Audi, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Jeep, Mazda and Ram, signed on to provide CarPlay in future models of its cars. This is going to be a must-have feature for me in my next car.

Now if car manufacturers would start talking about when/how it’ll be integrated. I’m interested to see which models Land Rover is going to integrate it in.

If Apple offered an unsubsidized head unit instead of offloading the hardware to Pioneer and other manufacturers, I’d buy one in a heartbeat. I bought a new Subaru Forester and hate the Harmon-Kardon system. The interface is really awful, and outside of Bluetooth actually working, the system is painful to configure and use.

Seven of those nine are part of the Fiat Group (Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Jeep, and Ram). I expect it won’t be long before Volkswagen is added to the list of CarPlay partners, now that one of its brands (Audi) is now on board. Looking forward to what Alpine comes up with this fall for the aftermarket.

My next car will be a Tesla. I hope they integrate with iOS soon!

this can be categorized as Chrysler Group. Eventually, all makers will have to offer all options. Doing otherwise would be too limiting on their potential sales.

Actually, the list is not of car-makers, but of brands. Nine brands, 3 car-makers. Most all brands in list are part of Fiat-Chrysler LLC, and then there is Audi and Mazda. Regardless, I’m glad to see more and more jumping on the carplay bandwagon!
