“Only Apple” has been Tim Cook’s closing mantra for the last few Apple keynotes.
Is this true, though? Is Apple the only company that can do this? I think it’s inarguable that they’re the only company that is doing it, but Cook is saying they’re they only company that can.
I’ve been thinking about this for two weeks.
I spoke at a MUG group this evening and made a similar point and there’s no doubt this is Tim Cook’s Apple.
I’ve been wondering since the introduction of the Apple iPhone how the competition could possibly meet or beat it. I was half-expecting one or two to do so. But I’m sadly not too surprised that no one has.
Now, as Apple steadily expands its ecosystem on all fronts, the competition looks more and more like a pack of disjointed bunglers left in the dust.
Though the hecklers keep on lying and whining in protest, Apple’s best revenge continues to be its successes.
This year’s WWDC brought ever more hope for a continuing bright future with good software news for developers and customers.
As half of 2014 has already zoomed by, there yet remains the holidays for new product announcements this year.
Oh, I almost forgot. My Tampa Apple Store just got remodeled last month and I haven’t visited it since!

You’re still having problems with Maps? I am not nor do I know anyone else who is. It’s steadily gotten better an better. I don’t bother using anything but Apple’s Maps now. I love the integration between my iMac and my ipad and iphone too.
I am from Northern Europe and satellite images sucks, some are even in low-resolution (check Örebro in Sweden for example). I’ve seen a lot of improvements around the world in Apple maps, but there are still problems exist that I have reported long ago (for example: Saint Pierre and Miquelon are double placed in standard view; and there are many more errors in standard view). I have a big problem with satellite images, they lag behind Google maps.
And I wish they would adjust search algorithm because it prioritise businesses before well-known places. And search for Mount Everest, the highest peak on earth, it will give you unrelated locations, not the location of the mountain itself.
As far as I concerned satellite images in Southern Europe (Italy, Spain, France) are decent and better than competition.
You do agree that it has gotten vastly better though. I notice none of you complaints relate to directions. One of the biggest original common complaints. They’ll get there. It takes a long time to perfect.
Can’t complain about the directions since I rarely drive a car.
Road coverage is good, but on rare occasions it is messy (IKEA in Karlstad (You can’t get there by searching ‘Ikea, Karlstad’ or ‘Ikea, Bergvik’ which is the location where that Ikea is, that is the problem with the search, you have to go to Sweden (middle part) and then search for Ikea and then zoom in to that Ikea in Bergvik) ).
I’ve seen some improvement in road coverage, where they placed smaller roads in Serbia. Looking forward in further development in roads in Albania, Macedonia, Moldova, Bosnia and Herzegovina, South Korea (Yeah, that is right, just check Seoul, they mapped the big roads and not small ones) and others, minus North Korea of course.
