This is what you do when your smartphone sucks balls

Samsung is taking over Heathrow’s Terminal 5 and turning it into a giant advertisement. Apple, on the other hand, talks about its customer satisfaction and design—the iPhone sells itself.

If anything, this makes me want to avoid their products more than I did yesterday. Which is funny, because we’re looking for a non-smart slider phone for my wife, and Samsung actually might have the best choices in that category.

I love the new S5 ad where they all wash it off with water. That’s your selling point SAMEsung, you can wash your phone in the sink? Lol.

I would be disappointed if the iPhone 6 was not water-resistant. One of my iPhones died after I had to use it in a rain storm.

That is one thing that could be a selling feature. Too many iPhones and iPads end up water damaged and it gets pricey.

Ironically, Apple is making their software look like airport signage and airport bathrooms.

Remarable airport architecture has always been very rare.

“Flat” UI design is just a brutalistic fad, just like “functional” 70s architecture or “back to basics” clothing. It has no functional, artistic, practical or even technical merit and is not very likely to stay for very long.

If only they had Erik Spiekermann sitting in on typography. There’s a man who knows airport signage.

Buy your customers. Buy your customers. Buy your customers.

Samsung is a reflection of their customers.

Last time I saw something like this was years ago when I arrived at JFK and found the entire terminal littered with pictures of the Playbook and the slogan “Amateur Hour is Over”. I don’t think that worked out too well for RIM/Blackberry.

Funnily enough, I read an interesting article on Advertising Age today about the latest fad in branding, which, naturally, applies to Apple’s ads…

Yeah, the iPod shuffle sucked balls too. Remember?

Did Apple rename the train stations?
