The positive and negative effects of video games

I’ve seen a number of articles purporting to lay out the evils or the benefits of video games for kids. This article actually does a good job of laying out the pros and cons, reasonably objectively. Personally, I’m pro video games, with a healthy mix of other activities mixed in.

  • Children who play more violent video games are more likely to have increased aggressive thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and decreased prosocial helping, according to a scientific study (Anderson & Bushman, 2001).

there is no conclusive data linking video games to real world violence. none. no more than there are for violent books, comics, music, or pinball machines. the cited 13-year-old study on increased aggressive thoughts is singular and debated.
