12 WTF things at the New York Toy Fair

The 2014 American International Toy Fair this week ushered in a collection of the hottest toys due out this year — from a Siri-like teddy bear and an augmented reality bedtime stories to a board game that teaches coding to pre-schoolers — but scattered within the shiny and new is the bizarre and wacky.

Gotta feel bad for today’s kids. Some of these toys are really lame.

  • Sigivald

Yeah, and since these are the only toys on the market, they’re really so much worse off than when we were kids, eh?

  • invinciblegod

Yeah, Slinky’s, Hula Hoops, Furbys, and Elmos are the opposite of lame. Let’s face it, childrens’ toys were always lame in some way or another (to an adult).

Huh. I had the same reaction to the “Gotta feel bad” comment. I have two kids – ages 13 and 15 – and they are WAY better off than I was at that age. This is a wonderful time to be growing up. I envy them in a way.

Robot fish sounds great. If anyone wants to make a squillion dollars, come up with a robot cat that listens to your mother in law dribble on about the weather and look interested.

3D pen just seems all kinds of fun and dangerous.

Depends on the kid and the parent. Lame parents neglect kids who become bored with anything and create nothing for themselves.

  • Scott Falkner

I think they need to consult with this guy…

  • Billy Razzle

That remote controlled paper plane is awesome.
