Yamaha acquires Line 6

Yamaha Corporation and Line 6, Inc. today announced a definitive agreement for Yamaha to acquire Line 6, a leading manufacturer of innovative solutions for musicians. The acquisition expands Yamaha’s portfolio of modeling guitar processing products as well as pro-audio equipment, and offers new and exciting opportunities for accelerated growth for both companies.

Holy shit, that’s big news.

I’ve been really happy with my Yamaha THR-10C practice amp that I bought earlier this year; the tones are really, really good. Marrying that kind of technology with Line6’s capabilities and track record could really be a win. Also makes me think that the live music creation market is in decent shape if Yamaha is willing to make this kind of investment. Long live rock & roll!!!

Yeah the THRs from what I’ve heard are amazing. Add that to L6 and maybe some variax technology to Yamaha’s guitars and they have me listening.

I bought a PodXT something like 10 years ago and have been pretty happy with it over time. Corporate takeovers don’t always turn out well, but I’m looking forward to seeing where this goes. Next time I’m in the market for a guitar processor, I’ll look forward to seeing what they’ve cooked up.
