Katie Couric joins Yahoo

Anchorwoman Katie Couric, who has hosted high-profile programs on all three major U.S. television networks, will head a team of global correspondents and help shape news coverage at Yahoo Inc., the Internet company announced on Monday.

Marissa Mayer is making some bold moves. I like it.

Is that sarcasm? I honestly can’t tell, thanks to the internet.

    I mean, I hope it’s sarcasm…

I don’t think so. It is not written by Jim. Besides Katie tried to replace Oprah and didn’t even last a year.

I think Yahoo is trying to do a Netflix, 5 years too late.

      • Sigivald

No, no, I meant the part Jim wrote, about “bold moves” and liking it.

I haven’t read a lot of sarcasm into the beard’s commentary on events. Seems to be a much more straightforward guy than that. Maybe I’ve been misreading the tone this whole time? Possible.

Just in case: Katie Couric is about the most inoffensive, pantywaist, pointless choice you could make for this position. Yahoo hired a celebrity, and a better one than, say, Paris Hilton for the slot. A journalist would probably have been a better choice. (Asking Sarah Palin the lightest of fluff questions (“what magazines do you read?”) does not count, even if, given the interviewee, it made you look for a moment like Sam Donaldson.)

I suspect this won’t be the last tv journalist we see fleeing network television towards other forms of media.

I wish she would just fix yahoo mail.
