RIP Tom Clancy

“Never ask what sort of computer a guy drives. If he’s a Mac user, he’ll tell you. If not, why embarrass him?” – Tom Clancy

Author Tom Clancy has passed away at age 66, according to TMZ. Clancy’s military thrillers – especially his Jack Ryan books – became fodder for great action movies, and Clancy’s name is also attached to hit video game series like Splinter Cell, Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon.

    That is just sad.

  • I played Ghost Recon on the original Xbox and think it still has some of the best player assist AIs there ever were, in that the sniper teams you are not in direct control of could carry out missions unattended and not try to merge with trees or run head on into enemy fire.

I realise that Clancy had little to do with Ghost Recon as it was not based on his books, but that’s what I thought of when I heard the news.

  • RIP.

I remember reading “Hunt for Red October” while in sub school in Groton, CT in 1987. Some of the guys on my boat were extras in the movie when it filmed at SubBase San Diego a couple of years later. Great writer. Great books. Sad to lose him so young.
