ABC, WSJ reporters show how fucking brain dead they are

I’m not even going to link to ABC or WSJ. Instead you can read Daniel Eran Dilger’s fine story. Spoiler: ABC and WSJ think Apple’s record iPhone sales are bad news.

  • BongBong

Mainly the WSJ. They have become click-trolls extraordinaire. ABC can usually be seen openly promoting iPads and iPhones, what with their Disney ownership.

    • mikey

I think this is more than click whoring at WSJ. This is blatant stock manipulation done at the behest of their cronies who are selling Apple short. Latest Apple numbers put them on a peninsula about the other assholysts, but it will need to an island of credibility before they stop. Though Rupert may not even stop at that.

      • Christopher Levin

I’m not into conspiracy theories, but it does sound kind of logical. I can’t imagine how many billions were made shorting Apple stock when they fell from 800 dollars to sub-500.

  • Buckeyestar

I would normally say that you can’t make this shit up, but apparently they can.

  • studuncan

I always wonder what would happen if Tim Cook spent 5 minutes to call out these guys. Really lay into them. And then imagine Steve Jobs wanting to do it 10x worse.

    • Moeskido

They’d simply paraphrase and misquote him in whatever way they could perpetuate their trolling.

      • http://www.tumblr.com/blog/his-divine-shadow His Shadow

Yup. Witness Schiller’s pre-We’ve-Updated-Everything event interviews being spun as “desperation”. From the same bozos that decry Apple’s tight-lipped nature.

  • Moeskido

Wow. That’s a pretty short article for him, isn’t it?

  • http://www.thepapermail.com/ Jacob Penderworth

It’s all linkbait, really. They want views so they resort to trolling people. Pathetic loss of integrity.

  • Sebastian Paul

Apple releases cheap iPhone: “OH NOES, LOWER MARGIN!!!!” Apple releases more expensive iPhone: “OH NOES, NOBODY WILL BUY OVERPRICED TOY!!!” Apple releases new iPhone at the same price: “OH NOES, INNOVATION IS OVER!!!!”

    Pathetic!

  • Dave Brandt

Perhaps Apple should just buy off the press rather than concentrating on making the best products…the WSJ is..Murdoch. That’s the answer. Apple is in the business of disrupting every business he is in — OTA and cable TV and the dead tree salesmen. He’s figured out that the WSJ’s enemy isn’t the NYT, its the 21st century itself. He’s opposed to it.

    • Sebastian Paul

      Problably true.

Here in Germany, we had lots of Google-bashing in the newspapers in the last few years -> All because publishers lobbied the government to create a law that forces Google to pay the publishers for linking to their articles (displaying headlines and snippets) in Google News.

  • def4

Of course they’re bad news. They’re bad news for the narrative they are trying to brainwash people with.

  • GTWilson

Tech journalism is nothing more than agenda driven bullshit at this point. Fortunately, as 9,000,000 sales indicate, no-one worth mentioning (Outside of investor circles) is influenced by it.

The article was pretty short, but I still had to troll down

  • Chris Jennings

The ABC and WSJ writers failed to analyze this deeply enough. The 5c comes in five colors and two sizes. The 5s comes in three colors and three sizes. That’s not two new iPhones – it’s 19 new iPhones! 9 million divided by 19 is ~475,000. So (by their logic) Apple really sold less than .5 million phones!!! But wait, there’s more. As the writers noted, unlike previous launches, the iPhone rolled out to China on launch day. There are more than 1.4 billion people in China. So Apple really sold negative 1,399.5 million iPhones! It’s even worse than ABC and WSJ reported!!!

God I’m glad I bagged my subscription to that rag.
