The Hyperloop

The solar-powered system, which Musk previously described as a cross between a Concorde, rail gun and air-hockey table, would shoot as many as 28 passengers in each enclosed capsule through a low-pressure steel tube at up to 800 miles per hour, according to the 57-page design plan.

It will be very interesting to see if Elon Musk or someone else will actually build this.

My only question is why we don’t already have something like this in place yet.

After reading the PDF, I was mildly surprised to find it’s pretty well thought out. Needs a whole lot of failure mode R&D and testing, but I’m finding it hard to bet against a guy who has a successful private space launch company…

except didn’t he say he’s going going to do it, that’s he’s “too busy” to actually implement it? that’s a red flag to me.

Obviously airlines and railroads will lobby against this. We are stuck with a government that doesn’t care about moving forward. Anyway, if this worked it would be awesome! I’d ride it but only after popping 3 Xanax.
