Ads in Google Maps

Today we’re introducing an updated ad experience we think is more attractive for users and more effective for advertisers.

Oh thank you, thank you Google, I really wanted ads in Google Maps.

Google didn’t notice a clear typo in this text. It says ‘users’ when they clearly meant ‘us’.

Waiting for the outcry on worldwide global news networks… oh wait… surely it will be soon, right?

The worst part is that the first entry you see used to be the most relevant to your search and usually what you were looking for. It was only a couple taps from there to get directions. Now you’ll have to scroll past the ad and manually select the business you were searching for.

“Ads in Google Maps! I’m flabbergasted. I never saw this coming,” said absolutely no one.

I don’t know about this one. The only way I’ll like it is if it provides details on discounts in that area I’m searching, like a mapped group on view. Other than that, I don’t like this.

Deleted Google Maps on iPhone and iPad. I never used it anyway.

Didn’t the old iOS default Google Maps app have ads?

I think Google wanted to put ads in it but Apple did not , which is one of the main reasons Apple went off and rolled their own Map backend.

I believe Google already had adsense/adwords tied into Maps, this is far less subtle about placement though.
