Instagram ads are coming

During his company’s quarterly earnings call today, Facebook co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg discussed how Instagram will be monetized. The answer isn’t too surprising: there is a big expectation for the app to one day be profititable, and advertising will be the name of the game.

Not a big surprise. You are the product being sold.

I guess Vine isn’t so dead after all…..

…for now. People at Vine need to be paid too.

We’ll have to see what Twitter does about that.

  • Fortunately, the ads on Facebook (and most likely Instagram) are easily ignored—virtually invisible to me, anyway. I don’t use an ad-blocker, but I honestly don’t even notice them on the desktop. On mobile, they’re a little more in your face, but still easily scrolled past.

I would rather see a few ads now and then, than have them kill the service completely like Google does.

What Google ads kill the service, you can use search without even clicking an ad, skip them in YouTube and there is a running joke that nobody pays attention to the Gmail ads. The only thing I can think of is that shopping thing, and the ads are the service for that.

Doesn’t this site have ads? Who exactly are you selling to Squarespace, Jim?

  • When this whole ad impressions house of cards collapses, it’s going to be a bloodbath.

This one of the reasons I’m switching to Pressgram once it’s released in August.
