iOS 7 wish list

Federico Viticci has a long list of features and improvements that he would like to see in the next version of iOS. Some will never make to the operating system, but there are others that I would never of even thought of, like separate language support for Maps.

One thing I would like to see is the ability to send/receive iMessage’s from icloud.com

Agree. That would be great. Probably would work better than the iMessage app for Mac OS.

I’d like to be able to log into iCloud web site from an iOS device without it telling me to configure an account on the device. Sometimes my phone battery dies, but I want to use a friend’s device to check my mail.

One feature I would like to see implemented is to have all notification sounds muted when you are on a phone call.

“Still, I keep hearing of issues with wrong locations and POIs that were reported multiple times months ago and that are still not fixed.”

Oh god yes. Near where I live is a phantom gas station that I literally reported as being closed (as it had been, for about a year) on the very day that iOS 6 was publicly released.

Apple’s response was to leave the phantom gas station POI there… and added a second POI for it in the middle of an apartment building.

I’m really glad that for Guy Who Is About To Reply And Lecture Me About How He’s Never Had Any Problem And Furthermore Google Maps Thinks A Nearby Volcano Is A Golf Course the state of Apple’s mapping database is pretty fine. But there’s a lot of people in a lot of places who have done everything they can except mailing Tim Cook a picture of a vacant lot and asking “What the hell, dude? Just. What the hell.”

That’s not iOS that’s the data collection that feeds the Maps app. But I agree that there’s still work to be done.

My wish list: 1. “Show Purchases in the Cloud” for Music (without iTunes Match), movies, TV shows and books (without creating a separate collection). 2. Better metadata in books for sorting by author, title, genre etc without having to create manual collections 3. return the ability to see purchases in all stores and no matter how you trigger a download ask for which version of video is wanted 4. download later for all content not just video and the ability to globally turn it on and off per type. ‘Automatic downloads’ and season pass type stuff could have a selector for notifying when available. 5. Agree on the portrait mode for Contacts. Lame Sauce. Also bring back creating and moving into groups 6. Most social tag support for putting in Pinterest, Instagram etc into contacts 7. Ability to move contacts between groups, excluding perhaps Exchange since those are often secure systems 8. Universal Font support and selection using say the top ten fonts and ability to download perhaps another 10 of our choosing if we want/need them. And be able to use them anywhere with Font support an option for app developers 9. More options in Notes like proper folder syncing, moving between accounts, more ‘paper’ options like blank, grid, white v yellow. And iCloud support without needing icloud email. 10. Support for outside chats in Messages, ie Aim, Jabber 11. Ability to back up and restore data individually. In other words say I delete an app from my ipad, give me the choice to keep the data or at least (assuming I am using it) the last backed up copy. With perhaps even an option to back it up to icloud and then delete. If I download it again, an option to restore previous backed up data. In iTunes, something the same. 12. Back up SMS/MMS separately and allow for separate restores. Same as 11 basically but with texts. That way say for whatever reason I want to start over fresh in regards to apps and app data but want my texts they are there to do. or if I don’t want to waste space in icloud backing up texts i can turn that off. 13. Better file system. I don’t need to see it but get rid of the pain of having to ‘save to iTunes’ to file share.

I’m sure there are more but i can’t think of them at the moment.
