On the rumor that iOS 7 will ship on time

John Paczkowski quoting a source on AllThingsD:

“Yes, yes — it’s essentially a repeat of the iPhone/Leopard scenario,” one source said, referring to Apple’s 2007 decision to pull engineers from OS X 10.5 to work on iPhone. “Not as much of a fire drill, though. It will ship on time.”

Umm if memory recalls 10.5 was the buggiest release ever. I filled so many bugs that it put me off filing bugs for years. Hope 10.9 doesn’t end up that way.

    • or iOS7.

The issues with 10.5 were mostly due to Unsanity’s APE. If it was outdated, it killed the upgrade process.

Power users could deal with this, and get things up to date quickly.

Unfortunately, Logitech bundled APE with their drivers, so a huge number of people had an outdated version on their system.

Other than that, it was a solid release for me.

  • Whatever “on time” means

  • Mother Hydra

Yep is all I wanted to see. Not leaving disappointed.

  • Thank god it was not the usual one word ‘nope’.

    • Lol, well, with all the idiotic “journalism” going on, one can’t blame Jim for using “Nope’s” at a higher rate than “Yep’s”.

  • Very unworried about this topic; your word is reassuring nonetheless 🙂

  • God I hope they don’t turn it into the plain, flat, BORING design that Google, Microsoft, and the wannabe nerds like.

    • I actually like that industrial looking design.

    • Yes, it will be flat. It will also be monochrome and all text will be gray on white. Enjoy! 🙂

    • I hate that “flat” ideology some designer insist everything should be.

it’s ugly, no hierarchy, not easy to spot where is the content, where is the interface.

and in the end it’s fashion. People want “new” juste because. Not to do better and easier to use, just “new”.

It’s the same, but just reversed, than when everyone screamed “delicious generation”.

I’m sure it’s going to be flat, but at the same different and better than existing designs. Windows doesn’t even use color gradients but I doubt Apple is going to go that way. And the WWDC logo, for example, it’s very colorful and not boring at all.

  • Seems reasonable since it is sounding like Ive is having a much larger influence in iOS 7, UI revamp, than most people initially predicted.

  • What does on time mean? Apple needs a new phone and os middle of the year to counter the onslaught of decent Android phones.

    • They are still earning quite a bit. They don’t need to mess up their schedules to compete really. They are not a fast-sinking company by any stretch of the imagination.
