Facebook redesigns home screen for Android devices

Jordan Golson for MacRumors:

Facebook claims users turn on their phone 100 times per day, and, among other things, is redoing the lock screen on the Android phone to give users a slideshow of photos and updates from their Facebook News Feeds.

This isn’t a bad idea for Facebook and its users. Facebook is making itself the center of the user experience and that could work very well for them.

You can now have two big companies spying you on one device.

People act like Apple just throws away all their iOS data, they collect data too.

A layer between the OS and everything you do on your phone that has access to everything you do; email, SMS, web browsing? That doesn’t sound like a bad idea, wait, no, that sounds like a terrible idea and a privacy nightmare.

I particularly liked the part were they promised that usage analytics will be anonymized after a “short time”.

That layer is why it won’t ever be on iOS officially (maybe as a jailbreak item). Apple is too egotistical to let someone overhaul the UI like that nor let them have that level of private API access. And I say good

This is brilliant, it plays to what they need to survive and thrive in the social ecosystem. This does NOT bode well for google.

My question is, how useful will this phone be for people who don’t care about Facebook that much?

And what about those of us who aren’t on Facebook and don’t want anything to do with that shitty cult? Will our phones serve up this shit whether we want it or not? Apple iPhone for the win, I think.
